He has already made most of his salary from the deal. He makes $6M this year but after that he gets paid $4M over the next 3 years. If there's a contending team willing to play him in a more significant role than we are, I could see him terminating.

It's sound cruel to say to about a guy who has committed so much to the team, but maybe having Parise spend most of this season in the press box for the 2021-22 season will be enough to get him to seriously consider mutual termination after the year is over if he still wants to be playing...

What are the ramifications of a Mutual termination? Wouldn't Cap Recapture Penalties apply just as if he retired? The cap advantage has already been "spent". If not, does he have to play for another team in order to circumnavigate cap recapture penalties? Otherwise I would think that this loophole would have been used as an alternative in some cases to LTIR.

Why are wild giving away menell and essentially taking on cap dump in shayne G who has multiple years left?

Even if you turn around , Seattle won't take him.

Yeah this is what I have no idea about. Does it mean the contract is dissolved? Are we still on the hook for cap? Couldn't tell you. Did Winnipeg have a cap penalty for terminating Byfuglien's contract? The answer probably could be found with that situation or some digging on Google...

My understanding is that there is no more cap hit or penalty whatsoever, but he also forfeits the rest of his earnings. The contract and everything associated with it is no more. I could be mistaken though so maybe someone else can confirm.

Russo commented on this a few weeks ago and you're right. Mutual termination means no more contract or recapture. But it also means that Parise says pass on 10 million dollars. I think he'd only do it, if he knew he could get a contract with a contender.

The more likely route is trade and buyout.

Interesting, appreciate the confirmation. Def makes you wonder if there’s an angle. Especially next year when he’s only set to earn 4M over the next 3 years. If the wild won’t give him ice time and Guerin flat out says he’s untradeable with the contract, would he terminate next summer and sign for cheap with a contender?

Found this on Puckpedia.com
“ Contracts can be terminated if both the player and team mutually decides on a termination and the player clears waivers. This often happens for non-NHL players that wish to go play in Europe, so both sides agree to terminate. ”

The Buff mutual termination seems odd to me…
It seems like that should have been classified as a retirement because Buff chose not to return but the team wanted him back.
I just assume that the NHL will find a way to stick the Wild with a cap recapture penalty
