My first thought is why would Chicago pay 3+ mil more for a worse goalie????

It's not 3+ mil more it's 2.150mil more. Short answer is goalies with holtbys pedigree carry value beyond just performance especially when you have a young starter learning his way.

Subban is no good either. It’s basically trading garbage for more expensive garbage

Thoughts on anything else? I'm not too worried about Holtby, somebody will take him at a reduced price or they can buy him out if they need the space.

Like the transactions except the NJ deal. Also would rather Edler or Hamonic @ < $2M than McCabe.

McCabe is a very solid and physical dman that I think would get some term and 4-4.5mil if it wasn't for the knee injury this past season. But there is certainly concern over what he will look like after the knee surgery.

Curious what you don't like about the NJ deal? McLeod is a young right handed C that plays solid defensively and brings energy. Still has potential to bring more offense.

In isolation the deal is fine, but a team that was last in the North division, didn't have a first or second round pick last year and is giving up a third round pick this year per above and next shouldn't be spending too many high picks.

Fair enough. I just don't see how this roster improves without moving those pieces. Only reason I'm okay with it is Foegle and McLeod are still relatively young at 25 and 23 yrs old.

McLeod is a keeper.
He is our only righty center and after Hischier our best at faceoffs.
And he took huge steps on both sides this season.

The Wood-McLeod-Bastian line hopefully all return next season.

I think a pick would have to be included coming back to us in the Subban-Holtby trade. Prob just a mid pick nothing too over the top but we have your 4th already this year.
