let me preface by saying i don't think we should blow things up, but if we do...
- i like the Arizona trade for multiple reasons. reports have had the Coyotes listening to offers on Soderstrom, and Leafs have been connected to Garland in the past. Garland's contract talks are also stalled rn, in classic Arizona fashion. Dvorak was Matthews' former winger in the US-NTDP as well, and is a very versatile option. Arizona gets a veritable (and marketable) star in Marner and a solid defender in Dermott, who could use an opportunity to step up further in the lineup. Arizona can also use Marner to try and lure Matthews if he hits FA. big if, but it's always a possibility. i mainly just wanted to punish Marner for his contract negotiations, and Arizona feels fitting for him tbh.
- i'm not attached to the Rielly trade by any means, but Calgary could possibly lose Giordano to SEA and Rielly would slot in really nicely as their top defender. a second and Mangiapane, an excellent middle-six option, feels like a fair price.
- Kerfoot to SEA, pretty standard. i dealt Holl and Envgall mostly for their cap hits too, but it could be to two seperate teams, and i don't really care what team it is/what the return is - replenishing some of our picks and clearing cap is the goal here.
- Hamilton will get roughly what Piet got last year - if Leafs don't sign him, we keep Rielly and use the extra 3.5 difference for a top 9 F that the Rielly trade would've addressed. Coleman and Granlund will be right in that range or thereabouts - still have an extra 1.9 M for contract improvements. Oleksiak was another guy the Leafs were rumoured to be looking at around the deadline last year, and would be excellent on the third pair/PK. if not used for improving the contracts i offered, then that 1.9 can go to a 7th d-man, a la Bogosian last year. Liljigren is basically an NHL-ready RHD option in the minors, so I'd target a LHD like Koekkoek, Hutton, or Forbort potentially. hell, bring back Bogo if we need a RHD option too. Reimer as the backup because he deserves to play in front of a talented Leafs team at least once in his career.
- end result: deeper, more well-rounded team than last year, with the ability to score (our one fatal flaw last year) on all four lines. shockingly (/s), grit wasn't the issue, it was big players not stepping up. even still, you get Dvorak to replace Hyman, and Coleman & Oleksiak on top of that, which would technically improve it? defence is improved (Hamilton > Rielly, Oleksiak > Bogosian, Soderstrom = Dermott), forwards are more balanced, and we still keep the core (mostly) intact. please let this team bring me joy at least once in my life. please.
The Leafs need to ride it out with Marner....He's litterally one of the main reasons why Tavares and Matthews put's up goals on the score sheet
Is he? Does Matthews need him to score goals? He needs an 11 million dollar playmaker to score cause if he does that means he isn't that good of a goal scorer.

I'm not arguing with you there, he's an extremely valuable player in this league and what he brings to the table is hard to replace! I'd prefer we keep him too, this is just a "what would I be okay with if we had to move him" sorta thought process. More depth also gives a team more chances for staying in a game/series if someone goes cold, as opposed to putting all our eggs in a few baskets. That mentality killed us when two of those big eggs (Matthews and Marner) went cold at the worst possible time. At some point, immense talent or not, production has to come - and Marner's approaching that point.
MANGIAPANE ISN'T GETTING TRADED FOR A POSITION OF STRENGTH.
as i said, there's a very real chance Calgary loses Giordano this summer, which leaves them Hanifin and Valamaki as legitimate LHD options. The former is a fine second-pairing guy, while the latter has potential he's yet to really tap into. Rielly is 10th in defencemen scoring over the past three years, and could be a real shot in the arm for Calgary's offence if paired with a defensive guy such as Tanev. And while I'm a big Mangiapane fan, getting a top pairing defenceman for him would be well worth it for any team, imo.

I said Marner is one of the main reasons they score because he Literally assists on most of their goals....If it wasn't for Marner Tavares wouldn't have had that 40 goal season....And Matthews can do it all except for win in the Playoffs so I give him the exception

Tavares and him were dynamic but iunno if it's Marner or if it's Keefe but moving him with Matthews was unnecessary. It was unnecessary cookie hunting is what I think. Matthews and Nylander had chemistry 2 seasons ago but they had to put Marner and Matthews together. Sure Matthews might not win the rocket but now you have 2 dynamic lines instead of one. I hope they move him to the Tavares line next season, if not this team is a joke.

I think that Matthews can put up 40+ without Marner because he's just that good....But I agree Marner should be with Tavares

Where have you been? Hanifin broke out this year as a legitimate 1st pairing guy. Rielly doesnt even come close to returning Mangiapane alone, forget Calgary adding LOL

I'd rather Mangiapane over Reilly. Doesn't matter that we need LD. Mangiapane is important to this team and isn't available IMO
