Oleksiak is going to get at least $4M per, probably more.

I dont' see Bozak taking $1M on a non-contender.

I do like the idea of adding Zucker for not much.

Really don't like that trade. I'd rather add Reinhart if the price is right. I like the idea of adding Oleksiak but I think he's gonna re-sign with Dallas

I honestly didn't like the Pens trade at first glance, but if the Pens have a hard time dumping Zucker's salary, I think this is pretty fair since the Pens want to add some futures.

Roussel really has no place in the lineup, but I have a feeling the Pens can find a way to flip him.

Miller at center opens up a lot more options. I really like him with Hoglander and Podkolzin, two high energy hard working players who can make up for Miller's inconsistent effort at times (that he showed this year). He'll be the play driver on that line so he should be engaged every night, which makes us that much better.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lind or another young forward got the spot with Horvat and Pearson.

I hope we can find a better option than Zucker for 1LW. The trade is good value but I don't think Zucker is that good. Hopefully we could sign somebody on a one year deal who's looking to inflate their value (Schwartz) or something.

Defense still needs work, but we can't do everything in one offseason. That should be overhauled next offseason when we hopefully sign one of Jones/Pulock/Parayko.

What about the Expansion draft?

I really hope we don't use any buyouts. Holtby's is reasonable but I hate having dead cap. Hopefully we can send Eriksson to Seattle with Gadjovich and a pick.

If the market for moving cap is that high, then we are out. He was unwilling to move firsts and seconds for cap last year, and we didn't. We still are open to moving cap, but still under those conditions. I'm on edge about this trade since it's taking back another potential cap dump though with some bounceback. I'm just not sold.

I would expect guys like Lind, Gadjovich and 3rds to be the main pieces to any cap move. Roussel's contract isn't so bad that it should take any more than a 3rd to move, and Jurmo has exceeded so far.

It's a good unique build, and it makes sense to the team's scheme. Just needs to be modified a bit.

Vancouver quickly backs out then. I know Y is a great GM, but it still has to make sense for both teams.

They took a 2nd for Staal, and Loui makes less pure money than his cap hit. A 2nd and a meh prospect should do it - if not DET, somewhere else.

Staal was different

Rangers got nothing back though remember and Yzerman knew Staal was usable. Staal-Stetcher actually had good numbers

Eriksson barely played this season and with the wings would be sitting in the pressbox

When Marleau, Panik and Backes were moved it costed a 1st.

With the flat cap lasting a long time cap space is a weapon and Detroit will go yeah give us your 2022 1st we will take that Ericksson contract off your hands

if not Benning will just buy him out

Marc Staal trade is the comparable. 1 year left at almost 6 mil. Got a 2nd round pick for taking him.

Eriksson has 1 year left at 6 mil. 2nd round pick is the same price.

If he had 2 years left it would cost a 1st. Like James Neal for example.

but Marc staal was playing games and was a usable Dman before he was traded.

Ericksson was so bad he only played 7 games for the Canucks.

Yzerman sees that and sees the 6mill cap hit and goes yeah give me a 1st and I will take him off your hands

In this flat cap era, cap space is a weapon and Yzerman has all the power at his disposal. He has no need for Eriksson so why take him unless he gets a nice return for doing so.

Yzerman can just scratch him. Raymond, Berggren and maybe even Veleno will be starting the season in Grand Rapids. Stevie will want them playing lots of minutes developing. If he needs the roster spot Loui gets sent to Grand Rapids. Yzerman is all about acquiring picks so he can have as many kicks at the draft can. Taking cap dumps with 1 year remaining on their contracts is perfect for a rebuilding Red Wings team.

He was interviewed on sportsnet 650. They asked him a whole range of questions. Main roster comments were about who he would be targeting, his off season plan, what kind of players, etc.

why would he want to waste a roster spot just to scratch him. Not smart decision making

unless a 1st is coming back nobody is taking Ericksson so Benning's most likely gonna buy him out.

No im saying if Loui was to be moved it would cost Vancouver a 1st to do so.

or Vancouver would need to take a bad contract in a 1 for 1.

But reality is Bennings probs gonna just buy him out

It's all about stockpiling assets. That's what Yzerman is doing. GM's don't want to hand out 2nd round picks. Gorten was in a jam. He needed to dump cap and this was before he knew about Hank Lundqvist's heart problems. So to move Marc Staal's 5.85 mil he had to attach a 2nd round pick.

It doesn't bother me using a roster spot for Loui. Who's he blocking? Evgeni Svechnikov? He's been waived more times the past 2 years than any player in the NHL and went unclaimed each time.

Marleau was inflated because toronto was desperate. VAN isnt this desperate. They also had to buy Marleau out, which cost the full $6.25. Loui in pure money isn't that high.

Panik didn't cost a 1st. He cost a 2nd. Most of us routinely call the trade Mantha for Vrana and a 1st, and then Panik and a 2nd. Panik also had term. Term costs more to move in this league.

Backes was dumped, but we also can't forget that Kase was one of the most overrated players on this website for a considerable amount of time, and his analytics had him overrated in the league too. Murray had a high price on Kase, and that came through in the return. Dumping Backes wasn't the main part of the trade, though it did absolutely cost something. And, again, Backes had term.
