A UFA, backup goalie, d prospect they dont need, and a 3rd line winger. That's not close to an overpay, and Buffalo declines. Eichel isnt going to the Rangers

I'd say this is pretty much the right value if not still slightly in Buffalo's favor, it's certainly not a steal by any means

The way you manipulate things is pathetic. You include guys like Tage Thompson in other trades and you call them "first round picks", but include a recent 2nd overall pick going to the Sabres and he's a "third liner"

Asking for a borderline #1C, a 1st round pick in a deep draft, a recent 2nd overall pick and a 1B goaltender, is absolutely an overpay.

edit: and I forgot about Schneider!

lol.

More like the 6th highest goalscorer leaguewide over the past 2 years, Buffalo's new starter, the WHL Dman of the year, and a recent 2OA who took a massive development leap last season.

It's not an overpayment at all

It would probably would be considered too much before the neck injury concerns, let alone after.

To my knowledge it’s been speculated that Kakko was not apart of the Rangers offer last summer and that tells me they don’t want to part with him. It’s also speculated Drury doesn’t want to blow the farm up to get Eichel and NY also doesn’t have the young center prospects to give to Buffalo to make a deal. I’m beginning to suspect that the Rangers under Drury may not be as interested in Eichel as Jeff Gorton and John Davidson

The package above is probably equal to four first rounders easily with a little more. Before the neck injury that may have been doable. But right now with his value at an all time low, that will not be the case

Lol your assessment is far off. Zibanejad is a top 10 center— yes he’s a ufa but he would easily fetch two first rounders at the deadline if not more. Schneider was a first rounder last year and a whl defenseman of the year, also played at worlds and won gold as a 19 year old. Kakko was the second overall pick and was amazing defensively last year after being the worst in the nhl the year prior, has always been an offensive force until nhl— this will take some time and he actually needs PP time to gain more confidence (almost every other top pick has gotten pp time). Georgiev is your new starter, no he’s not perfect but in the scenarios when he’s gotten consistent playing time he’s been solid, rangers had lundqvist and now shesty so that’s hard to come by. Throwing in a 1st round pick in a deep draft when eichel may not even be able to play for the first few months of the season (so rangers will lose many games without him AND Zibanejad) will likely be a lottery pick.

Rangers laugh and hang up.

In his current state (injured, wanting surgery, possibly out the first few months of the season as neck/spine injuries are always serious and take a long time to recover), Buffalo wanting to “punt the situation to another team” as been reported, LA being out; he’s not getting “fair value”. Buffalo knows they need to trade him, they are just trying to ramp up his current value which no one is being fooled by. Fair offer right now is chytil/strome, Lundkvist/Schneider, georgiev, #15 and a 2nd that turns into a 1st if rangers make the conference finals next year. Two former 1st rounders doing well, a first round pick and another potential 1st rounder (minimally 2nd). There aren’t many teams that can compete with this offer (that also have the cap space without sending a bad contract back). They were looking for 4 1st round picks (that are doing well) and this almost fits that criteria. If they insist on kakko they won’t get Schneider/Lundkvist (they’ll get a prospect like Jones/reunanen) and may have to take Strome over Chytil.

Minnesota is probably the closest competitor, but they also have pending cap issues with the players they need to extend and fitting 10m for eichel. Arizona is also a possibility but it depends on how they view the injury (which is unknown).

I give Tage Thompson to Seattle, i think hes garbage so youre down 1 in the count, Zibanejad is walking after 1 year, wow much value, Georgiev is the most over rated goalie in the NHL hes not a 1b in any capacity, Kakko is an overrated finn, and D is literally the last position they need to trade for especially now that they all but confirmed theyre drafting Power

Zibanejad could be the highest goal scorer in the league for 3 years in a row, hes walking after one year, the Sabres arent moving Eichel for a rental, how does this need to be explained to 3 people. Georgiev is not a starter, at all. The Sabres dont need d prospects

Ignore that Mika is a UFA to be (Rangers will likely keep him).. You're talking about a .90, 1.31, and a .89 PPG (with covid this season) center over the last 3 seasons, a #2 pick overall, a blue chip defensive prospect a top 20 pick and a back up goalie for a top center?

Yeah no lol.. That is absolutely a massive overpay

With WPG's inability to sign top UFAs, trading for Risto might be our best choice to get that partner for Morrissey. I think it will take more but not much more.

I dunno if it is too much as Niku and Mackenzie will probably not crack the Jets lineup so it is a 3rd rounder for a Top 4 defensemen with a chance to resign him if it works out.

Thompson performed very well under Donny in a small sample size, with 7 goals in his final 21 games. He produced like a respectable top six forward. I saw enough that I’d be very intrigued to bring him back. He always was a project and he may be a late bloomer. He was consistently being used in a middle six role under Donny whereas he was consistently buried under Krueger, which makes you wonder what the **** he was doing

Sound theory, other than Ristolainen being a top 4D. He's better suited to a #5 as more minutes seem to be what gets him in trouble.

At this point in his career, Ristolainen is a project player. Any one of those assets is more than fair for him as a rental. Definitely not all 3.

He wants out so a change of scenery to a winning team might be what he needs. He might be our only choice as signing top UFAs to come to WPG is nearly impossible.

I don't think you want Risto for your top pair...when partnered with McCabe they both were having excellent years until McCabe got hurt. Risto gets a bad rap bc he was playing in all key situations against the other teams top lines for probably 25 mins/game. I think he is more suited to 2nd pairing.

Even if it is the 2nd pairing with Morrissey, Risto would be a welcome addition. Lots of LH defensemen we can pair up with Pionk on the first. Maybe even some young talent we have in the system.
