I don't think the pens are too big on trading McCann right now with Malkin out likely to start the year.
Pettersson I had pegged at a 2nd or a 3rd since he's a young, cost-certain, middle pair guy

You can't acquire those without giving up quality. We don't have the luxury of giving up pieces for Eichel or signing Hamilton. Players like McCann and Petterson are super underrated. McCann has a higher points per game than any player on Ottawa. Pettersson would be our third best defenceman after Zub and Chabot.

Would a 3rd and 4th round pick suffice for Petterson?

Most likely, yeah. Maybe a conditional if Pettersson plays over 70 games the 4th becomes a 3rd as well.

theres really no need for pettersson, good player yes but bottom 4 LD is probably the last thing this team needs. Id be interested in mccann but idk if the pens would move him

Brannstrom can play RD or be moved for a forward when Sanderson comes up.

Only interested in McCann if OTT can clear some of the glut of middle6 C we already have

McCann for Brown? I honestly just don't see a fit. Pittsburgh is pretty high on him and versatility. Pettersson could be had with a 2nd or 3rd. Getting his contract off the books would help the pens this summer.

In my opinion the Pens would likely be looking for a bottom 6-middle 6 winger with size, speed and grit. Obviously no one that is going to break the bank, but they would likely want someone in the $2M range at most to save cap. But of course this is just my opinion. Personally, I could see Hextall targeting someone like Ritchie out of Boston.

DJ's said he doesnt want left shots playing the right side. If they acquired a bottom 4 LD like Pettersson it would push Brannstrom/Mete out. I really dont see the fit and dont love the player but if it was a 3rd I'd be interested, definitely wouldnt go anywhere near a 2nd tho
