This is the most realistic woods trade I've seen from NJ fans yet.
Maybe they don't include the 3rd but the value is close.

Hamilton gets at least 7 x $9,000,000 on the open market. Philip Danault turned down 6 years $30 million from Montreal. he sure as hell isn't signing for less in New Jersey.

Danault had a down year + he is aging. If I was Fitzgerald, I wouldn't want Hamilton for more than 6 years. You never know what is down the road...

Depends on how you view it. He had a career year, but this is the best time to trade him. Get more value while he is valuable. But I don't think he is more than ZAR and a pick.

    says who?

Both guys are bottom 6 guys 3rd to 4th line tweeners.
Woods had more offensive production, but there is no denying ZAR is the more complete player with a much better defensive game.
There isn't all that much separating these players. I'd argue ZAR plays the heavier game, especially against better competition. For that reason, probably no chance in hell the penguins would do this.
Giving up a guy who's 205lbs and lays almost 100 hits in 45 games for a guy who layed in like 40 in 55 games and lacks the defensive game.

I think there is value in woods, but it's about equal here. If you think he has some grand value more than this, you are kidding yourself.

The move from Wood to ZAR is, at best, a lateral move. I don't see any reason for Devils to make that exchange.
I think if we send Wood to Pittsburgh, it would be for a d-man.

Also, we have zero reason to move Boqvist, who is under contract, playing well and expansion exempt.

I wouldn't do either of the trades. Unless it is a clear upgrade in on ice performance, I wouldn't trade away what Wood brings to the locker room. I also still see potential in Boqvist as the 3C with how much his confidence has grown. If you think that Mercer can fill that spot then I would entertain trading him but until then, I would only move him for a young defenseman in a similar situation.

I know plenty on wood, I've seen him play for years. I know who he is, and I've seen him as a player. I don't think you know who ZAR is.
It's not just my opinion on this either, go look at this thread. Other people calling it a lateral move, and that is exactly what it is.
It's two legit bottom 6 3rd-4th line tweeners being swapped. Little more little less.
You could argue both guys last year played 3rd line roles for their teams. One was used to generate more offense, the other to shut down the other teams best players. Which he did, effectively.
What you don't realize is ZAR had to change his game to become that. He wasn't always a shut down guy, they asked him to be that. He was a goal scorer but they needed him to be something else.
Which tells you a lot about how good of a player he really is.
It's a lateral move, a swap. No more.

Wood would be more useful to us than ZAR. We already have a player like ZAR in Nathan Bastian. So we'll keep Wood

And just like ZAR, Wood has changed his game

    none of this is true.
Nathan Bastian is no ZAR, and Wood never changed his game. He was a goal scorer as in prospect coming up, and he never really changed out of that.
He is not a defensive player. You don't keep going minus every year being a defensive first player. Defensively he's not great. But in his good seasons he does score goals which balances him out. But when they drafted him he was a goal scorer. Unlike ZAR who came out of NW racking up goals. 31 in 38 games his last year there, 43 points in 41 games the year prior. Those are really impressive offensive numbers for the NCAA. And then told to be a defensive first player. That comparison isn't even close.

Bastian is a physical bottom 6 winger that is solid defensively. Is that not similar to ZAR?

And Wood has definitely changed his game. In his first few seasons, he was a useless player that took dumb penalties and his only strength was speed. He couldn't shoot and couldn't play defense. Now Wood is more discipline, better defensively (he's not great, but surfacable), and has a much improved shot. I guarantee you that I know more about Wood than you do. I've watched Wood play every game and have seen how much he has changed

dude scored 3 goals in 41 games and played a mediocre game and you over here trying to compare him to a guy who gets selke votes. Just stop. You are comparing apples to oranges.
They are not the same. Everyone who watches games knows they are not the same.
One is a guy who has a very well respected defensive game with some offensive pop. The other guys put in some mediocre replacement level minutes.
Let me know why you trust him enough to go out there and play against the other teams top line every game, night after night and win that battle most of the time.

I didn't say Bastian is as good as ZAR. I just said they had similar playing styles which is why the Devils don't necessarily need him

that isn't nearly the point. One is AHL replacement value, the other is a legit NHL player.
