Monahan has gone two seasons in a row without being on pace for 60 points.
Hertl is now coming off three straight seasons of a 60+ point pace.
Hertl > Monahan. The only way Monahan gets you a bigger return is if he's traded now but Hertl is traded at the 2022 trade deadline as a rental for a team who can't extend him.
And I don't really see any spamming. Your only argument for Sean Monahan being good at defence was that he played on the penalty kill for a top-5 PK in the NHL and he responded how that's meaningless. Just to give you more perspective, Jack Johnson also played on our PK.
You seem to care more about ad hominem by bashing his fandom for liking the Oilers as opposed to explaining why your coaches are making the right decision by playing Monahan on the PK. You have 7 other skaters and a goaltender to help you get those sexy PK numbers. Ironically, you're also using the same tactics that your most loathsome Oilers fans used to explain why Leon Draisaitl deserved the Hart Trophy last year.
Have a nice day.
I did have a good response but it got deleted so ill paraphrase
- Asking why Hertl has more value doesn't make me a homer, I wanted your genuine opinion
- Monahan was injured for 70% of the season
- You undervalue extra term and 45% retention
- I specifically said Monahan's defensive game has drastically improved, mostly over the course of the season. I'm not nominating him for the Selke lol
- The graphs the above poster is so keen on using only shows seasons as a whole, you can't justify improvement
- Sutter has been very expressive with his opinion on Monahan's improved defensive game overall
- Above poster was being very ignorant and closed minded about the whole thing, can you understand how frustrating that is?
- As the title suggests I didn't make the Rangers trade, I wanted opinions on the Eichel trade not the one that's already been discussed and given positive opinions by other rangers fans
