Even at a cap hit of less than 3.6M? Not my original proposal, I just added the Eichel part

I personally wouldn't do it. He's very overrated and has been complete trash defensively the past three years

Hes one of the most underrated centers on this site, people go out of their way to make him seem like a 4th liner all the time. Also his defensive game has drastically improved. He's now a regular penalty killer under Sutter and Flames PK has been top 5 since he implemented his system.

His defensive game has gotten worse over time and his offensive game hasn't been good either since the 2018-19 season. He shouldn't be worth 2 first or even close to that imo

So you completely ignored what I said and just repeated yourself? Great you've stated your opinion now move along. Oilers fans are always biased in Flames threads anyways

I think it's hard to justify giving up a top prospect and a first for a guy that's essentially Strome.

Your profile literally says "2nd Favourite Team: Edmonton Oilers" LMAO

Playing PK usually means you are trusted defensively, Sutter has also been very complimentary on Monahan's defensive game in interviews too.

2nd favorite team. I like the Oilers but I'm not so into them where I hate the Flames. I like some Flames players like mangiapane (who's actually good defensively) I like Hanifin. Idc what Sutter says when I look at Monahan's RAPM charts or Jfresh's player cards he is trash defensively on all of them which tells me that he is trash defensively

That’s a price for Tomas Hertl, not Sean Monahan.

A healthy Monahan is better than Strome, 2 years ago when him and Gaudreau had their big years, after 60 games Gaudreau was pacing ~110 points like Panarin has the last 2 years. In that same span Monahan paced 92 points. Strome has paced 70 the last 2 years. I get your point though, they are similar players

Rangers issue is they are easy to play against up the middle. Not sure adding Monahan over Strome accomplishes that. 2 down years also causes hesitation.

But, Rangers have made some great trades for change of scenery guys, Brassard, Zibanejad, Strome

Then answer the question, both are 60 point centers, not known for being strong at 2-way hockey. The difference is 1 is a pending UFA, and the other has term while also being retained on being retained on.

Also I called him a troll because he stated his opinion, i explained how it wasn't entirely accurate, and instead of having a constructive conversation he just repeated himself and spammed the comment section.

Monahan has gone two seasons in a row without being on pace for 60 points.
Hertl is now coming off three straight seasons of a 60+ point pace.
Hertl > Monahan. The only way Monahan gets you a bigger return is if he's traded now but Hertl is traded at the 2022 trade deadline as a rental for a team who can't extend him.

And I don't really see any spamming. Your only argument for Sean Monahan being good at defence was that he played on the penalty kill for a top-5 PK in the NHL and he responded how that's meaningless. Just to give you more perspective, Jack Johnson also played on our PK.

You seem to care more about ad hominem by bashing his fandom for liking the Oilers as opposed to explaining why your coaches are making the right decision by playing Monahan on the PK. You have 7 other skaters and a goaltender to help you get those sexy PK numbers. Ironically, you're also using the same tactics that your most loathsome Oilers fans used to explain why Leon Draisaitl deserved the Hart Trophy last year.

Have a nice day.

I did have a good response but it got deleted so ill paraphrase
- Asking why Hertl has more value doesn't make me a homer, I wanted your genuine opinion
- Monahan was injured for 70% of the season
- You undervalue extra term and 45% retention
- I specifically said Monahan's defensive game has drastically improved, mostly over the course of the season. I'm not nominating him for the Selke lol
- The graphs the above poster is so keen on using only shows seasons as a whole, you can't justify improvement
- Sutter has been very expressive with his opinion on Monahan's improved defensive game overall
- Above poster was being very ignorant and closed minded about the whole thing, can you understand how frustrating that is?
- As the title suggests I didn't make the Rangers trade, I wanted opinions on the Eichel trade not the one that's already been discussed and given positive opinions by other rangers fans
