Because the best offers available will come from teams outside the division (LA, Vegas, NYR). I'm not saying your offer isn't good, but I don't think Bergevin does it and I think the other teams are more likely to. The only way they would ever trade within division is if the offer was amazing and the others weren't great. Like Edmonton would never trade McDavid to Vancouver or Calgary

They got Moulson (coming off 3 Thirty Goal Seasons ) ,1st (colin white) , 2nd (Brendan Ghule)

No one at the time was offering an Established 30 Goal Scorer , 1st and a 2nd so BUF took the deal.
It kinda back fired on them as Moulson was really effected by NHL Rule changes and the speed of the game increasing as such but is still a top AHL guy.(skilled but slowwww)

My Point is BUF sells to the highest bidder period
They cannot afford to do anything less especially with Eichel

Beyond that MTL and BUF anymore then we play TBL
We've still made different trades with them over the years big and small

FFS OTT and MTL play against eachother more then anyone and we trade among one another.

This 'dont trade in the division ' dates back to before the Cap Era made it irrelevant.
Its not like you can stock pile teams like DET,DAL and COL did to end last century and start this century.
