Seattle will take Murray, Logan Brown, Tierney or Dzingel I'm guessing. Althought I think Logan Brown might be protected. Assuming G to be protected is Gus.

No cluw what it taakes but I think Phili would make this move lety me know

You cannot trade whats probably a top 5 pick in that draft for 1 year of Giroux.

TBH, I think it would cost more to get Giroux. Also, seeing as he'll be in the last year of his deal AND we aren't going to win the Cup, I'm not sure it makes sense for Ottawa unless we believe we want, AND CAN, re-sign him on a reasonable deal with a 3 years or less term. Something like a $7M X3. But I'm pretty sure Giroux would rather take a pay cut and go to a team that's a favourite for the Cup... that's not Ottawa, YET.

* Side note: I wouldn't separate Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson. IF we had Giroux I would put Stützle on his left and see which of Dadonov, White and C Brown works best on the right.

I agree on the lines. I didn't realize I messed that up.

Giroux is from Ottawa and might want to go back for the last couple yearas of his career and help a young team take the next step. Ottawa will be good next year, I think they will be a playoff contender.

I agree that Ottawa could/should/would make the playoffs next season with the addition of Giroux. And you're not wrong, hometown boy, exciting young team... but Giroux might be more inclined to take a pay cut and go play with the AVS or something. It would just be too much for Ottawa to give up the 1st rounder if Giroux wouldn't sign and we were forced to move him at the deadline. I'm just doing some math on where we'd be if we extended him for 3 years...

A team that hopes to be a playoff contender that trades away their 1st before the season in a draft that strong is really risking having that be a lottery pick.

Ottawa might be ready to turn the corner but a few untimely injuries and they could be right at the bottom of the league again.

He's a 32 year old UFA and there's a good chance they gave you Shane Wright in return 😳😳😳😳😳 may I suggest there's more to the deal than that ultimately

Trying to stay understated 😐

He's still our captain and giving up a player that has played his entire career with philly would come at a higher price than that.

Only way i see Giroux switching teams is if he doesn't sign with philly

It took half a decade for Erat-Forsberg to fade from the collective consciousness and the GoldenSeals gm trading away the Lafleur pick is a well known story

This is somehow both (!!!) in a single trade

Why try to go down in history for futility

Why

Why is this receiving less scorn than most posts 🧐

If you're thinking of Giroux as a rental, I totally agree. But if he is extending for 2 to 3 years I'd really consider giving up that first. The way the team is playing now suggests they won't be at the bottom of the standings next season - adding Giroux to that moves them even higher up. You can't build a team around the possibility of losing key players for extended periods of time.

A massive overpay for a 33 year old with one year left who won't lead you to the promise land. Ottawa would much better to spend that cap difference between Tierney and Giroux about 5m on a good UFA and keep their picks.

Although he played for Gatineau in Junior and spends some of his time in Ottawa in the off-season, he's actually not from here. He's from Hearst, ON which is 10.5 hrs away. Just wanted to clarify that for everyone.

They need a vet to guide the youngsters too. Who do they have? Chabot as a vet....? Who better than Giroux?

I think you fail to realize I am not suggesting they trade this years 1st. Next years 1st will hopefully be lower, likely 10-15 ish. Giroux will hopefully bring up all the young guys to another level.
