Laf has to be in the convo for the Sabres to even answer the phone.

I'm not so sure. I think Sabres might go quantity over quality a la Karlsson trade.

2 (very) Productive players
2 B+ Prospects
3 picks (Potentially 2 first rounders)

Would be the biggest trade return in recent memory.

If I am the sabres I would make the NYR pay a premium for not including Laf / Kakko / fox / Miller,

As a Sabres fan, I like this idea. I would try substitute the 2nd and/or 3rd for a D prospect. Either Schneider, Taro, or Jones.

Taking quantity over quality never works in the end. If BUF trades they are already losing, if they lose in the trade ie don’t get at least two very high end pieces literally they are worse off for the next decade (if that’s possible). I mean it’s a nice package but essentially the 2nd line from a current non playoff team, a prospect that has given some weird interviews about being traded , and a hodge podge of middle of the round picks. My contention has always been they need a draw to come back in an Eichel trade, Lafrienere is that draw. But that’s just my opinion.

The way I see it the best you can hope for is not including Fox. They would want Laf. And the Rangers would be great with Eichel

I agree. I dont think lafreniere will be included, but anything beneath him should be in play.

May I simply point out the Erik Karlsson Trade. At the time of the trade, Ottawa was in the same position as Buffalo currently is. Everyone thought they did terribly with that trade prioritizing quantity over quality. Well turns out that trade was unbeleivably one sided.

For a full rebuild, it might actually be better from an asset management POV to turn one asset into 7.

Who Knows. Kravtsov and Chytil might turn out better than Laf. Eichel might never be the same. Those draft picks may turn out to be the next Stutzle / Norris.

The future is unpredictable. And those who think they can predict it, often get bit in the ass.

I like this trade for buffalo because they get more a ton of assets in the long term while staying ''competitive'' in the short term. Buch and Strome come to right the ship in short term but could also potentially be traded in the future to get even more assets.

It’s not the same thing even remotely. Karlsson was going into the final year of his contract with a M-NTC, he was 28, there were locker room issues. Eichel is a 24yr old elite 1C, if you can’t get the package you want trading the most valuable quantity is the sport then you need a new job, and not getting what you want is a failure. You’re arguing what’s good for BUF from a Rangers point of view. I’m not a fan of either but if I’m BUF I tell the Rangers to pound sand on any deal that doesn’t involve Lafrienere.
