How does trading players and prospects right now for low round picks make us contenders?

The Edmonton Oilers will never contend in the foreseeable future because they are a two man team, you don’t win with a two man team

Cant see Sharks take on that much cap for a 4th.. they literally retained a portion of Foligno's contract for the rest of the year for a 4th.. taking on Koskinen AND Neal will cost much much much more.

Sorry but there's no reason for the Sharks to take on cap dumps if we're only getting a 4th rounder back.

We'd be looking for 1sts and 2nds out of trades like that, and there would be no reason for the Oilers to retain on Koskinen or Neal as well if we were taking on cap dumps.

You are right. They need to be a three man team like the Leafs before they can ever truly contend. Let's pay three players 10+M.

I think the presented roster really claims to be the cup.
In the free agent market, key positions that the team desperately needed were spotted with experienced performers for a short time, who would add skill. Tatar is at the peak of his career and buying him for a short time (for a problem position for the Oilers, the left edge of the top 6 in the top three to McDee) will have an amazing effect, I think it will work, and he is also an old acquaintance of Holland.
Zajac will add experience, he is right-handed, he is very productive, a good percentage of winnings, a great gain for the short term.
Plus, bad contracts were thrown off, for a minimum of assets.

I disagree. In addition to the two best players in the league, we have Hopkins (top edge, also top of the league in special teams), young edges that are already making a result in the top 6 (puljuarvi, yamamoto), strong lower tiers, strong prospects (benson, mcleo , marody, holloway, lavoie), strong defense and a deep set of avenues in defense, Smith (top goalkeeper, even if he is 40, but he is really top, follow him, he is a real team leader), and of course a competent coach and general manager. You will see Edmonton in the next five years, a real contender for the cup. It is quite possible to win several cups

Koskinen for 3 million is an excellent goalkeeper, I consider him an asset, 2 million Nile for 2 years for this, perhaps we can give for example the third round of 22 and 23 years

I consider Koskinen to be 3 million and I consider the fourth round a good payment for keeping two million of Neal's contract, especially considering Sharks' problems with the goalkeeper line and the absence of claims for the cup in the next five years, for them keeping part of the salary is not critical, but I agree to raise the fourth round for the third, or maybe the second round, depending on how you agree

I don't think Koskinen is worth much even at $3 million. It's certainly better than 4.5M, but he's only been marginally better than Jones this season. Neal himself is pretty bad and probably worth a late 1st at least to get rid of to be quite honest.

I think my point is, if the Sharks wanted Neal and Koskinen, it would be cause they're rebuilding, not trying to improve.

Neal and Koskinen are just simply not good. And to trade them, the Oilers have to treat them like cap dumps (cause they are).

You are partly right. My opinion is that Koskinen for 3 million is an excellent goalkeeper, of course he is not the first goalkeeper of the team, but who is able to play half of the games in the season. Moreover, the contract is only one year, so the risk is minimal. Regarding round 4, I agree, perhaps this is not enough, a debatable question, you can give round 3 and 4 for the fourth round, or two third rounds. I think this is a good price for keeping two million for two years under Neal's contract, especially since the Sharks is in a long rebuilding, so the place under the ceiling is not so critical for you.

I think Barry is now very good, and five million for 3 years is a good contract, especially if in two years Bouchard and the Bear are really better than Barry, it will not be a problem to change the remaining year of the blueliner's contract, gaining 40 points per season.

Regarding this exchange in general, I disagree with you that Koskinen and Neil are terrible. I repeat Koskinen for three million a year, able to play half of the season's games at a decent level, an excellent option, especially given the not very good situation in Sharks with goalkeepers. Regarding Neil, he is not as bad as he seems at first glance, he is a born sniper and over the years it has not gone anywhere, a cool shot, he is athletic in good physical shape, of course at this age he became slow, he can stand up for a team, for example when he did not refuse to fight with Matthew Tkachuk. He has 6 points for only 18 matches, that is, a point for three games, it's not bad. The reason Edmonton is changing Neil and Koskinen is because the current contracts are a wild overpayment, and for Edmonton now every cent counts. Because Edmonton is now in a window of opportunity to win the Stanley Cups over the next five years, while McDavid and Dreiseitl are the best players in the world and are in their golden age.

You are right. They need to be a three man team like the Leafs before they can ever truly contend. Let's pay three players 10+M.

      Lol exactly

That is very very very true!
