You're giving up WAY to much for Gaudreau, Avs say no, overvaluing Mantha, nobody pays a 2nd/3rd for Marc Staal or Luke Glendening and Toronto says no.

Gaudreau trade was tough to gauge cause the Flames will need a lot to part with him, feel like Bernier would be a smart move for the Avs in the current NHL to make a serious deep playoff run and goalies can cost a lot around the deadline especially one who was playing as well as Bernier on a horrendous team before his injury, Mantha will be similar to Gaudreau probably take a lot to actually be moved, Staal fills a need for the Isles to replace Boychuk's role and provide a steady and experienced d-man for a playoff run plus they have an extra second next year anyway and salary gets retained, Glendening is the best faceoff man in the league going to a team who needs a lot of help there and teams with Cup aspirations pay heavy for forward depth all the time (Goodrow and Coleman to TB), Gagner just provides the Leafs depth so who knows.

Thats just the rationale behind each.

Yeah COL isn’t including Timmins in a trade for 2 rentals, that trade is way out of balance. You want to talk 2021 picks COL is open for business for rentals that will help.

As for this
1. We dont need staal and dont want him, maybe you saw that the islanders need d depth, to that i say we dont but if we did trade for a depth defenseman it would be a right shot dman.
2. In terms of a veteran leader deep on the d chart, we already have one his name is andy greene and he was captain of the devils for a whole bunch of years (if you werent aware)
And in addition to all this the last word id use to describe staal and boychuck would be steady (ok maybe fast is a better one) but they lose games for their team. As much as every islander fan (myself included) loved boychuck it was time for him to go bc even wo that massive contract he was a liability on the ice and the same withh staal.

Obviously aware of Andy Greene, been big fan of him for some time now. Believed this trade simply provided the Islanders with some extra depth for a Cup run and set the price point high due to Staal being not quite terrible on an extremely terrible team and the Wings retaining half of the salary. Again these trades are just ideas and I was mainly working with this from what the Wings would be looking for in returns so that's where the return packages get higher in value as realistic as they were intended to be.

Guerin has made it pretty clear that he doesn't want to part with a good prospect or high draft pick for a rental. Any move he'll be making will be for a long term solution. Adding a 31 year old pending UFA seems like the anthesis of that sentiment. He isn't going to rush the timeline and throw a bunch of chips in the middle just because we've had some success this year. He's trying to build toward long term success.

If the Red Wings either:

1) Take back Hickey
or
2) Change the pick to a 4th

I would do it.
