Follow the Kenny and renny show on YouTube. It’s great for jets talk. Both guys really know what they are talking about, especially wiebe. They do a live about an hour postgame after every jets game and it’s really great. If you are a jets fan and haven’t done so already, check it out!
Now onto the team, ekholm is a no brainer for the jets. He has a couple of years left and is a high end guy who would be the perfect partner for pionk. The jets should do whatever it takes to get him, unless that involves parting with perfetti, heinola, or Samberg. I send Vesalainen (XD exempt) who is still a high end prospect. I still think he can be a top 6 guy but with the jets depth, I don’t see that happening with them. Maurice doesn’t exactly play young guys in spades. However, he would be a solid peice for nashville to add a he’s nhl ready, has top 6 upside (floor as a middle 6 player imo), and he’s exempt from the expansion draft. They have also reportedly been interested in niku so I added him. That said, if they want a better prospect, the jets have plenty like gawanke and kovacevic who are more trade choices than long term pieces for the jets imo. Apparently their ask has been a high upside propsect (top 6 forward or top 4 defensemen), a second piece (young roster player or b prospect), and a first. I think this offer does get it down with a little price going back and forth here or there, however, this is a good foundation imo.
For the next piece to add, it has to be a big shutdown rd. Someone who will clear the front of the net. Savard is the best fit and he’s close with dubios. Maybe incentive to sign? As for the deal, quite simple. Shutdown d-man for a 2nd. I moved a 2022 second because the jets may need some draft capital for the expansion draft.
Also, that top line gets way too much hate. They take the minutes they get, unsheltered. Generally, on the road, they play against the other teams top lines, the third line against the 2nd lines, and the 2nd line gets the best matchup against the other teams 3rd line. They draw the least sheltered minutes on the team. In fact, other than the 4th line, the jets second line probably is the most sheltered. It’s not easly playing against the mcdavids, draisaitls, and matthews of the north.
I also really like what Maurice has done with the defence issue. The defence is brutal on paper, we all know that, but over the past week, it hasn’t looked terrible. That’s both a combination of playing against teams that have seemingly given up and the jets forwards playing very good defence. However, what Maurice has done is working. I do with he would play harkins in the lineup, but very coach likes his vets. Overall, I think he has done a very good job.
Also, beaulieu better stay out when he gets healthy. Stanley has been so good.
Winnipeg has options. Hope Chevy does something like this.
I personally prefer adding hamonic and Savard over ekholm. While yes ekholm is awesome, creates some interesting problems in the ED. We’d likely lose Stanley, and that hurts a lot. I know the OP talked about saving draft capital for the ED, I think that’s smart, but realistically, a 2nd isn’t going to keep seattle away from Stanley. I’d rather make some smaller moves like hamonic and Savard, instead of giving up so much for ekholm. I really like ekholm, but losing vesalainen and a 1st hurts.

Kid of funny that TDL was usually about getting the best UFA. Now the big names include Ekholm, Manson, and others that are not UFA's are in play. Must be about the expansion. Getting Savard and Hamonic will solve some issues so I would be happy with them. One of them should work with Morrissey. Not much lost in picks and some lesser prospects lost. Also we could protect Stanley instead of DeMelo which is a big bonus.
Bottom line is Chevy must get something done.

I mean, I think at that point, we cut our losses if they aren’t taking the 2nd. They will chose one of Stanley, harkins, or berdin. I would pay them harkins and a 2nd to stay off the other 2. If they bite fine, if not we cut our losses. I think teams learned last time what those side deals can do to a team. I mean, even the jets, went from a nick Suzuki to a Kristian Vesalainen. Just not sure Stanley or even, dare I say, the birdman, are worth that. We are going to be exposing one of demelo or Stanley anyway, so why not both. I think they take demelo anyway tbh. I think having a top pairing shutdown guy like ekholm for 2 playoff runs is more important.
The jets need to go for it now, before they have holes in the aging top 6 (mainly wheeler). Over the next few years their cap situation is also favourable, they should capitalize on that. Finally, they NEED to take advantage of no having to go through the central in the playoffs. The central plays a very wear and tear style, the fact that the jets don’t have to play that this playoffs is very significant. That means they aren’t completely exhausted by the time they get to the conference finals (if they do), unlike last time.

I don’t disagree. It’s likely a better option to try and win in the next 1-3 years. I just think giving up vesalainen to get ekholm is going to hurt. I agree most teams won’t make side deals. I’d rather just acquire two ufas like hamonic and Savard, and then protect Stanley so demelo is left exposed. I just think Chevy is going to be very aware of the ED, and likely won’t make any moves that jeopardize us in the ED. He knows now how much it hurt to move those picks like he did last time.

Considering the expansion draft, I’d still do the ekholm trade. The jets will likely be protecting demelo over Stanley anyway so why not leave both unprotected. Let them take demelo and it’s all the same
There is no way Chevy regrets that vegas expansion trade... it allowed him to keep his top four D together and we were in the conference final that same season.
Collecting prospects are nice, winning championships is better. Both of the proposed trades above are absolute no brainers, you lose nothing from your line up and you get the two best D available. I like Vesalainen too and believe there is still a good upside there, but that top four D above is worth a whole lot more.
Worry about the expansion draft at the end of the season, but it would be alot easier to deal with the ED fallout with a banner in the rafters i assure you :-)
This North Division is ripe for the Jets taking right now....Toronto has a brewing goaltending issue and they dont scare me, I refuse to believe that with that D-corps McDavid could single handedly beat us in a 7 game series, Habs cant compete at this stage with our center depth and Cgy is an absolute mess... the time is now, that top four D puts us ahead of everyone else, Hellebuyck looks like he might be on the cusp of going supernova here based on his last few games, you surround him with that D and our top 9 and lookout

MY POINT EXACTLY!!!!! If I could give this post 10 likes I would lol.
Also, we know chevy will be doing at least one of these, he always has before a playoff run. And with some of the better guys on the market too in stastny and Hayes. He’s going to go for it again. It’s just a matter of who and maybe when (though tdl day is chevys style).
Also it’s a matter of how much, like will he add just one of ekholm/Manson/savard/ristolainen and quit there, or will he add 2 top 4 d? I’d think he goes for 1 of the big guys in ekholm or ristolainen and then wraps it up with a lower cost one like hamonic. That’s just seems like something chevy would do

He needs to add either a #1 RD or two top four D one right and one left if he wants to really go for it which i think im clear that he absolutely should...
my preference for option 2 is ekholm savard as they are exactly what we need.... but i am kind of hoping chevy might be patiently waiting for deadline day and go big game hunting haha ....highly unlikely but if cbj made jones available and i dont think thats out of the question...im all in... there is no such thing as an untouchable prospect...especially when youre as close as the jets might be

For sure. I 100% agree. However, Jones’ political views probably don’t line up with the jets locker room so I would be very cautious with that.
I agree though, a number rd is most important. The jets need a stable partner for JoMo. However, if we can get ekholm, he becomes priority number 1. Adding him completely changes the jets dynamic.
That said, I don’t think a number 1 rd is completely necessary. I think if we can add another number 3 and a shutdown guy, both with size, we have one of the best d-cores in the league.
There is no way you're getting Savard for that cheap with that much retention. Even without retention we're trying for a bidding war to get a 1st; make us retain and we'll insist on it.

Yeah, the jets aren’t giving a first for savard. We’ll look elsewhere thanks.
