They placed him on waivers today

He’s injured. They want to send him to their taxi squad for cap savings. How hard is that to understand

Injured players can go to IR. If it was injury related there is no reason to place him on waivers.

IR doesn't help the accrue deadline cap space, which they do by moving him to the taxi squad while he’s injured. No one is going to claim him because his contract is iffy, and he’s hurt right now.

So the canes trade a 4/5 dman a prospect and a 3rd for a guy who would be a healthy scratch on their team... makes sense

He makes 4 mil, only 4 teams have the cap to claim him.

His contract is viewed as rough, despite him being great for Carolina.

Carolina save money by putting him on the taxi squad.

He likely clears waivers.

Carolina can get more money for the TDL by waiving him and assigning him to the Taxi Squad while he is hurt.

Gardiner can play. He isn’t a 100% so the team isn’t asking him to play.

Cant put him on IR because he wouldn’t be eligible to play. We also couldnt waive him for cap savings.

If another defender is to hurt to play then Gardiner will play.
