I'll start this off saying I actually kind of like this. Kerfoot was brought in to be the 3C. If he's going to be a top-6 winger, the Leafs can do better and Hall is much better. The price tag seems reasonable as it's a first round pick, a decent prospect, and a reasonable contract in return.

I don't love Engvall as the 3C and feel that it a place that we need to improve, but this offer seems fair that you suggested.

Hall isn’t worth that. Plus why bring that negativity to your locker room. Get Ekholm to reinforce the defense and try to get Foligno. That’d be the best thing for the playoffs.

I would probably do this for Hall, but that means that this really is an all in year for the leafs. In which case, I would need to add another C and Dman for this team. But the salary in Hall and the cap really limit that. I think the rumors stand to reason- leafs probably want to add a top 6-7 forward and a dman.

What's the negativity? I would definitely do Foligno if they could make it work. But he is having a bad year.

Everywhere he goes turns to crap (NJ, AZ, Buffalo somehow got worse than they were). Toronto looks great they don’t need him. Foligno is the kind of guy who helps in the playoffs.

I think Foligno's better days are behind him. I would prefer a better 3C than another bottom-6 winger.

He carried NJ to the playoffs. Those are also not good teams. Put him on a good team with players he can pass to and he will be huge. But the context here is if you can fit him in, what you have to give up (if there is a bidding war for him), if it means you can't add more maybe you don't do it (it's an all in move- counterproductive if you are still weak in other spots).

That’s a lot to give up to take a chance that he plays better. Plus that was only 1 year in NJ, the other year they were one of the worst teams in the league and got 1st overall. Maybe it turns into a Kessel on Pittsburgh situation where he plays on the 3rd line in Toronto and dominates.

I think the Kessel example is the right take. That is how I see it. Not the first or second forward of importance for the group. Probably the sixth. If you have Hyman in your top 6, I think it's the best top 6 in the league. But again the issue becomes balancing the other parts of the team. And you are totally correct, the acquisition cost is important.

I’d do whatever it takes not to include Hallinder if you’re gonna give up Kerfoot and a 1st. He seems like a solid prospect and as you guys continue to move to contending you’ll need those to balance the cap.

Yeah totally agree- it's the point I was trying to make with the bidding war.

If that were ever on the table, Buffalo would be foolish not to accept that offer IMO.

If Sabres fans want to chime in and say that isn't enough, they're even crazier than their delusional ownership group.

I would hate to give up Hallinder, but that is what it would take to get him i think... but Maybe Buffalo takes Sandin instead? something like that?

Hall is on a bad team. Ryan O'Reilly was on a bad team... Hall is a good guy, good teammate, and i bet would thrive on a live with JT/Willy...

Just kept it because they've been playing so well.... not crazy about him either... but they are playing really well
