Why would Dallas trade Klingberg??

Because he’s a UFA after next and they are currently a lotto team. No guarantee he re-signs there and they may as well maximize his value now. I’d do the same.

Well first, let me start by saying that Dallas isn't retaining any money on a hypothetical Klingberg trade. Next, the price for Klingberg, who is on an incredible contract, is going to start with your 2021 1st Round Pick, Cole Perfetti, and other lesser picks/prospects. The Stars have no need to trade Klingberg, even in a rebuild, so any team that legitimately wants Klingberg is going to have to overpay and give Dallas a king's ransom to do so.

Definitely don’t disagree, but I think values, especially cross border are going to woefully ****ed. GMs have to deal with a flat cap, internal budgets, the coming expansion draft and Covid quarantines. I don’t think you will see the trade values we have seen in the past and think that some, not all, but some, will be much lower than predicted.
Take Minny for example. Fans are demanding a Top C back for Dumba, a guy they may very well lose for nothing in the XD. They may have to take less knowing that GMs have to navigate all the extra bull**** right now. Then again, they may get more. Who knows.

Dallas is 6th last in a shortened season with a shortened road ahead, that’s a lot of catching up to do

Dallas is in 7th with 20 games played. The other teams in the division have between 23 and 26. They can catch up

I hope so, they looked great in playoffs last year. But with the condensed schedule, as well as injuries, they maybe asking for too much and things may not line up the way they hoped this year.
