Équipe: 2020-21 Maple Leafs de Toronto
Date de création initiale: 3 mars 2021

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
David Savard is an upgrade over Justin Holl. Darren Dreger also mentioned that the Leafs could be interested in either upgrading the top 6 or finding a second pairing defensemen

I am liking the third line of Hyman, Mikheyev, and Engvall, making Kerfoot expandable

I can't see the Leafs protecting a 28 year old Holl over a 24 year old Travis Dermott. Holl's been great for the Leafs, everything we ever wanted, but we can't act like he is not replaceable and how there aren't any upgrades over him. Outside of Jake Muzzin, when he played with Travis Dermott, he did not look steady. I want another Jake Muzzin on the right side

???? Savard isn't an improvement this year over Holl. So you lose both players as UFA and 1st round pick. You really want to chance Engvall being a 3C, and with a centre injured a 2C? Plus you lose players for two weeks just in Covid isolation. No, I can't see the trades making the Leafs better this year or in the future.

You do have a point. Heck the Leafs might leave both exposed as Seattle would can only take one. Leafs might want keep Holl as he does play RHD, and the Leafs probably think LHD is more easily replacable next season. But both are good NHLers on nice contracts, and you're right Dermot does have more upside.

I'm not saying that Holl's been a bad defensemen at all. Outside of Jake Muzzin, can you say that he looks good with Travis Dermott? If we only had Justin Holl for one season, I would take David Savard. What also angers is me is the fact that the Bruins have a high interest in Savard frown

That's debatable in 2021. Plus you lose Savard for couple of weeks before he can see the ice in Canada. Then he has to practice with the Leafs and you hope he fits in.

I know folks think Columbus has all these great Dmen and the Leafs Dmen are crap. Leafs are 4th in GAA, Columbus 24th.

Very true. Let's say Jake Muzzin was hurt during the playoffs, who would you feel more comfortable holding down the second pairing? Justin Holl or David Savard. I know I keep saying this but Holl did not look the same when he was paired with Dermott which is why I am so worried

I am starting to think that the Leafs are going to protect Holl and probably Rielly and Muzzen and cut a deal to protect Brody.......Holl is really emerging.....great game last night against McDavid.

Savard is on a decline curve......Holl is getting better and better.....you have to realize that he was virtually a rookie last year and has lots of mileage still in his tank.

Holl is definitely emerging as a 3/4 defensemen, however, I would say he is a 4/5 at the moment. You need to also look into account that he is 28

He is on a great contract.........I think Dubas will protect his top 4.......Bogosian has really impressed me this year and Leafs will resign him.

Is Dubas someone who would protect a 28 year old over a 24 year old? I think we need to bite the bullet and let Seattle take Justin Holl

Leafs are 4th in GAA. Columbus in 24th. I see a lot of trades, try to tinker...and are really just hope the new guy can fit in and make the team better. Dermot can play with anyone. He played with the Leafs a Russian rookie two years ago Higanov?, last year Ceci and this year Bogosian. I never understand why folks say Holl needs Muzzin. Muzzin was injured in two long periods last year, Holl had to play with someone. Let's give the Leafs coaching staff some credit. The team has been so much better since Babcock was fired. It's been process, but the team, no matter who is playing seem to be on all cylinders most nights.

Agree and really have to give Dubas alot of credit for adding solid defencemen in Brody and Bogosian and then adding forward depth in Thornton, Simmons, Versey, Barabanov and Versey.

I think what is the next question is as follows:

1. Do the Leafs need to add a veteran bottow six forward and bottom pair veteran defenceman to add more depth in the event of injuries for this year's playoffs as they have a chance to win a cup?

Well Holl did play 20 minutes a game, and Dermot 17 minutes and both were plus players. The Leafs climbed out of last place and made the playoffs. Leafs went stretches last season when Reilly and Muzzin and both injured. Barrie and Ceci were the Leafs two worse Dman. So I guess Holl and Dermot had to be OK last season. But let's not talk about last year. Keefe is now in first NHL season. He has brought in different assistant coaches. No one should be complaining how any of the Leafs are doing this year especially their Dmen.

Of all places the Leafs do NOT need to add is bottom six forwards, and they have plenty of veteran bottom six forwards now. Injuries might make trade necessity but really not needed now
Yea a bottom pair Dman would be nice, but at what cost? And if the Leafs have to add cap, does similar cap have to be traded. Now you're talking about subtracting from the team to make an addition.
Well right now, I would say the Leafs have their best chance to win a Cup as they have add in years. Still there are other teams who have an equal chance or better.

I still say that Babcock's terrible game management cost the Leafs that first series against Boston and maybe the second too. Keefe can manage a lineup, so the this year the Leafs have their best squad of players on the ice and behind the bench.

They have been OK. Part of issue is getting to know each other, which they can learn quickly because they play on the same team. Dermot and Bogosian seemed to have really clicked this year.

I mentioned this suggestion on my other thread but I think the Leafs should strongly follow the type of players the Lightning added, considering their model is similar to the Leafs, a team who was very skilled but did not have enough energy, hard grinding, hard to play against players. They fixed their problems a season after their elimination to the CBJ by adding Goodrow and Coleman, which are the type of players the Leafs need more than anything (more Hyman's), and be set for the playoffs even more. All of these rumours on Mikael Granlund, I don't mind adding him, but why? Place Kerfoot on the top 6 and you have a Mikael Granlund. We need someone with meat, who plays a strong defensive game to limit scoring chances
