please explain the logic behind trading one of our best defensive prospects (85 points in 103 WHL games) for a 39 year old veteran who has -3 with 7 points in 25 games.

Because points in the AHL does not translate to points in the NHL, take example Anton Lander, 12 points in 6gp, Invisable in the NHL. Even at 39 years old playing 3rd line minutes and PP minutes, would still be more effective then an AHL star at 18? Logic should be to win now. If iggy brings that little bit extra to push for a last playoff spot, that alone is worth the cost

Looking at it now, your right, swap or 1st for a 2nd round pick, would be better

As an Isles fan, I think you're overpaying for Boychuk and Nelson. That said, this move helps both franchises TREMENDOUSLY roster wise. NYI needs offense. EDM needs defense. Snow and Chiarelli have a history of working out deals well. I REALLY like this. But for a fairer move for Edmonton, I'd make it the following:

Isles get: Nugent-Hopkins, Klefbom, EDM 3rd rounder
Oilers get: Nelson, Boychuk, NYI 2nd rounder

Your logic is flawed. trading one of our top prospects for a 39 year old player is full decline is laughable and will not make this team better. I get the urgency for playoffs but what Jones could become is much more important to becoming a contender than 1 year with the shell of what Iginla once was. I would love for Iginla to make a cup run with Edmonton but not at the price of Jones! Every piece of reporting about him since draft days has been what a steal he is becoming and what he is trending to become.

What??? "I think you're overpaying for Boychuk and Nelson". lol then you say that to make it fair all you gotta do is switch is the 1st to the 3rd.

Makes sense....

You can literally say that about any AHLer then. How does that make any sense? Ok everyone that puts up points in the A will not play in the NHL. Like what? You might as well just trade your whole AHL roster for 39 year-olds because "they're gonna give you that little extra push".

The Iggy trade works if Colorado retains a bit of salary. 5m+ is a lot to take on with only taking on 2M. I know some think Iggy is finished but he isn't. he's just not "50g and fights anyone and probably wins" Iggy anymore. The guy still bring the leadership and experience to a fragile EDM forward group not to mention the Chiarelli-Boston-Iginla relationship. Hendricks is a 4th liner at best and Jones is an ok prospect but he's nowhere close to a sure thing. Its not that big of a loss.

The other one is something I could see Chiarelli doing but I would advise against it. Losing a LH dman for a RH dman only makes sense if your stacked at that position. EDM is not. Plus Boychuck is really overpaid. I just don't think this is a good trade for EDM.

If I were to trade Iggy, I'd go with a 3rd and a (C/C+) prospect. He's 39 years-old that doesn't bring that much other than leadership and toughness. I really don't think the Avs would ask anything higher than that because they know he's not really needed there anymore. And no other team would pay that much for him.

Well the trade is Jones and Hendricks. Hendricks in this trade actually brings down Jones's value here as a result and that doesn't even start to explain that Jones although an alright prospect isn't an A/A-/B/B- prospect to begin with. His stats look nice and fancy but the underlying truth is I can rattle off a ton of promising young dmen who put up great numbers in the CHL and never could really doing anything of note at the NHL level. Whether you like it or not, there is a higher chance Jones never becomes anything more than a bottom pairing dman than a top 4 or better D.
