$3.5 over 6 for Danault

Out of curiosity, which center can you think of in recent history who has gone close to 40 games without a goal (but who’s excellent on face offs and defensively!), who signed the following off-season for more?

- I don't think that Suzuki signing a sub 6M for 6 years is closer to the realm of possibilities, a closer to reality contract would be a bridge deal like 2x5M$.
- KK isn't playing great hockey but he isn't signing a sub 2M$ bridge deal, there's actually 0 chances that he signs for cheaper than Lehkonen.
- Signing Chiarot to a 4 year extension from 2022 to 2026 when Struble, Norlinder and Harris are all likely to see ice-time in the next two years would be pretty bad from a cap stand point.
- You don't give Armia and Lehkonen four year deals.


For me you do not sign Danault for 6 years (Until he's 33) when you've got a cupfull of center prospect. He's at the top of his game right now but I doubt he maintains his stats for 6 years.

Hahaha, I just saw the Danault contract and figured that I'd stop reading. I don't understand the whole "Our prospects are all future HOFers" followed by everyone getting the most team friendly, bogus contracts. Doesn't make sense to me.

To be honest I'm way more triggered by the fact you're giving Suzuki a copy paste of Drouin's contract with an extra year and KK getting a million less than Armia. Drouin came here as a dump from TB and Armia as a cap dump sweetener.

What contract do you believe both Bergevin and Suzuki will agree to? (assuming a 6 year term coming out of entry level)
Hischier (same draft class) signed for 7x$7.25mm, so you gotta figure his cap hit will come in noticeably lower than that.
As for your point about comparables on our team, given age as a relevant factor, one can definitely make the case that Suzuki should come in at a lower cap hit than both Anderson (who got a 3 year bridge) and Drouin.
Also, the cap hit a player can expect on a less than stellar Devils team, and a team like Montreal who’s aiming to compete for the cup, are not apples to apples. I think my numbers for Suzuki are reasonable (and maybe even a bit high), especially with a stagnant cap for multiple season projected gong forwards.

Re: KK, take a look at what Armia got paid coming out of entry level. Last time I checked, KK had 18 goals in his NHL career. Armia will be a UFA, KK’s under team control. Apples and oranges.

KK’s stat line will look somewhat similar to Puljujarvi coming out of entry level (also similar draft position) and he’s locked in at 22&23 at under a $1.2mm cap hit. Do I think he should get more? Sure. How much more?

This stuff isn’t black and white. The way a look of the posters here speak of contract extensions, you’d think that they’re directly on the payroll of NHL player agents.
