Yeah a 1st would be essential, I'd imagine. The thing is though that the Leafs can't afford his cap, so retention (50%) would be necessary. Whether through a 3rd party or the Penguins doesn't matter to me, but it needs to be there.

It would work for this year, cap wise, but they've got some expiring deals, and then they'd need a replacement 3C. The retention is pretty non-negotiable. Again, though, it could be from a 3rd party team, or if we replace Kerfoot in the deal with a cheaper player (Mikheyev maybe? $1.645 millon and expansion exempt), maybe the retention is more palatable for the Pens.
