Ask yourself-Would you take 1 year of Trochek, a decent shutdown dman who plays just over 15 minutes a night (That's not top 4, and indicates that he's likely sheltered...) and a couple of B-ish prospects for someone like Teravainen?
Probably not.
Trocheck is under contract this year and next. That is 2 years of Trocheck. Plus, extending him isn't illegal!
As for the Teravainen comparison, TT > Laine. A much more fair comparison is someone who doesn't skate as well, and doesn't play a good 200 foot game, which is like Dzingel paired with anyone with an elite shot. Rees is not a B prospect. He is the best prospect in the organisation right now. That's not your fault for not knowing that, but I really suggest looking at him. He's incredible. His defensive game issn't amazing, but it's solid. His offense is spectacular. Fleury isn't sheltered, he plays both PK and ES, it's just the D ahead of him, AND He's playing his offside. He's easily top 4 on any team that doesn't have the same level of depth on the backend Carolina do. Keane is a B prospect, but that's not a deal breaker. RHD are always difficult to find. I don't understand why you say that this deal is off, because the value is about perfect when you weigh up the pieces individually and combine their value. I think you're making a classic mistake of looking at a player and just not seeing a stand out name going back, when Laine really doesn't deserve that. Columbus made the trade with PLD because they got Roslovic too, who's a very good player. Laine isn't a complete player, and a package for him will reflect that.
