It's not that people don't like jones - it's the fact that he's hyped up to be this elite defenseman when he's more of a High end #3, low end #2 D.

With Jones the Blue Jackets were challenging for a top 3 spot in their division, he got hurt and they were going to miss the playoffs had the season went on normally. He is absolutely a stud. Pulock is fine but I don't see him being half as good in a different system.

if anything trotz system holds pulock back, so that argument is flawed.

Pulock is 12th in offensive impact among all dman over the last two seasons. 3rd in WAR. When pulock is on the ice goals are scored at an elite rate (gf/60) and he's also great at preventing quality chances. If jones is better than pulock, why is he not ahead of pulock in most offensive/defensive metrics? Torts system isn't much different from Trotz.

That’s fair. I factored in both analytics and raw talent in my ranking. Plus I looked at Jones’ charts at Bill Comeau’s viz and from 2017-19 he was pretty good.

I was just pointing out a weird stat that Jones happens to be 1st in NHL history in.

No doubt jones has a ton of raw talent, but then again so does Rasmus ristolainen who's been replacement level for the past 3 seasons. jones was great in 17-18 , but two years in a row hes been nothing more than a high end #3. He's still a solid D, he just doesn't deserve to be put in that elite category until he consistently produces at a high level.

I really dont know about Jones, his level of play confuses me cuz some people think he is really good and underrated and other think he is bad and overrated.Regardless if you are talking about 2020-2030, I would put him lower cuz he is already in his prime (the early end but still), vs like a McAvoy who is about to enter his prime and will still be in it in the end of the 2020s...

The only other thought I have is that the player type feels off to me. Dougie is a OFD, McAvoy is TWD, Drysdale is OFD im p sure... Idk maybe not but
