Yes, they are a cup contender. They are not a favourite. The goaltending which many people will point at and go "ew" is fine. The issue is depth scoring. If Niederreiter has an up year, Necas takes that next step and Trocheck can find himself in the 50 point range again behind that vaunted SAT line, this is a scary team. Deep on the blueline, and adequate goaltending.
