Kastelic is still under contract til next season. A trade (likely not major) will have to be made. Cheap UFA RH centers include Luke Glendening, Derek Ryan, Noel Acciari, and Nick Bjugstad.

Anthanasiou is great, Korpisolo is a good signing, and Poulin should be in lineup full time. They are probably a first round or second round exit at best. I see them just missing the playoffs once again.

playoff drought ends
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gretzkyghosts</b></div><div>Even if the Islanders and Panthers faulter, the Senators and Wings will be nipping at the Sabres heels.
So they may improve dramatically, they may again fall short.
On the other hand, if we look at the jump Cozens made this past year one could possible project that same progress onto Power, Quinn and Peterka.
There have many GK younger then Levi, who did not have his pedigree, made a successful the jump to the NHL.
His presence between the pipes should improve the Sabres GAA significantly.
Add a defensive 3rd or 4th line Center, and upgrade over Bryson should be sufficient to add 10 more pts to their 91 from last year.
Just my opinion, but I did predict 90 pts for this year.
editor9999 you did a great job, better than many Sabre fan have done.</div></div>
Thanks. I'm just not sold on the Wings and Senators goaltending. Levi has looked great and even though UPL wasn't that good they still ended up with winning record with him in net.

I don't think Pittsburgh's goaltending will be any better this season because even if Jarry walks, there aren't that many good goalie UFAs on the market. I don't think they can fix the bottom 6 this summer. I have low expectation I think Dumo is staying because Sully likes Dumoulin. Ottawa I don't trust a Forsberg-Soggard tandem. Florida got carried into the playoffs by Matthew Tkachuk.

I don't think the Canucks will make the playoffs next season. I see them starting off terriblely, firing Tochett in December/January, hire a coach like Peter Laviolette and end the season strongly and miss the playoffs by 10 points. I won't be surprised if the Flames somehow make it back to the playoffs.

I didn't expect the Canucks to start the season terriblely. On paper, the forward core only got better and the same d core was actually solid in the 2021-22 season under Bruce.

I'm pretty sure I meant they would still remain in contention for a playoff spot after losing Tkachuk/Gaudreau. I picked Vancouver over Calgary to make the playoffs because I thought Markstrom would not be be good this season.

can this team make it back to the playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>Maybe but who do they knock out of the playoffs? Zero chance they will be better than Carolina, Rangers or Jersey any time soon. And with Buffalo, Ottawa and Detroit on the way up, can they hold those teams off? Or pass the Islanders and Pens? I would think their best chance is next season for 1 last ride and then you have to think rebuild.</div></div>
Buffalo has found their goalie (Devon Levi). However other teams could figure out how to score on him quickly and neither Comrie or UPL were that good. Detroit and Ottawa have question marks in net. Kuemper is a solid goaltender. The Caps had a lot of injuries last season. If healthy, they should make the playoffs. The Islanders are built for the playoffs, but I think they'll again have trouble making the playoffs and it'll come down to the final few games to determine their fate (Anders Lee is the type of player that could fall off a cliff as early as next season, Bo Horvat has not worked out so far, Besides Barzal and Horvat most of their forwards are 30+ (although mostly early 30s), a long term injury to Pelech could screw their season) and the Pens will probably just miss the playoffs once again (Inconsistent goaltending once again, poor special teams again, poor defence again, useless bottom 6 again, the Top 6 plays great but their efforts are wasted once again).

I don't know if Guentzel would be interested in playing in Toronto (let alone Canada) long term. He might be fine with going to Toronto as a rental if Pittsburgh plans to rebuild, but I'm unsure if he would want to stay long term. I don't think the Leafs would want to give up a second first round pick, but who knows. It could be like the Brandon Hagel trade.

True, but the Pens were probably affected the most from losing games they shouldn't have. I think most teams generally finished within 5 points where they should have finished based on their overall play.
