I dont think they pass, they have a lot of cap-space and for a professional franchise they will look to add a veteran who can kill penalties and play a matchup role allowing the skilled players to thrive. From a fans perspective it wouldnt make sense because you just look at stats, but from a professional standpoint sutter adds leadership and the abilities I listed before. What makes it even better is that he'll expire after the season so its not a long term commitment, plus he can join his former teammate stecher.

What makes it even more realistic is that the canucks dont get anything back. The goalie will never play in the NHL. So essentially the canucks lose this deal by sending out their best penalty killing center for basically nothing, just to earn extra cap flexibility.

The problem is Detroit already has 23 men and the capspace could’ve signed someone much better this offseason. It’s also 3.5M in cash.

Nope. Detroit will squeeze to get everything they can. It also costs to dump cap nowadays

Nope we aren't helping teams out of cap hell for free. Vancouver adds at least a 3rd or they can keep his cap hit and we will be fine

Is that counting zetterberg on LTIR? Also, is that counting the vets that will be sent down?

If so then Sutter can be moved elsewhere. Hes not too hard to trade since hes good defensively.

what do you think about the lightning part of the deal?

With a NTC, he could still be moved. Tampa could let him know that they need space to sign cirelli. Plus I think he'd love Vancouver because they have a great youthful core, beautiful city, and he can join his former teammate Miller. Not to mention he'd have cernak with him.

3rd or 4th is reasonable.

We have 23 w/out Zetterberg being included and signing Timashov. It’s going to be hard to move that size of cap even if he’s good defensively as your team should be aware by only paying a third for Schmidt.

Tampa declines. Their best RHD would now be Cal Foote (who has never played in the NHL) or Luke Schenn (who's.........you know Luke Schenn), and they want nothing to do with Tanner Pearson.

Thats a very fair point. what if the canucks threw in their best RHD prospect brogan rafferty?

There would still be a hole but at least you could sign cirelli.

You bring up a great point tho

They don't want prospects, they want cheap, productive players and still don't want Pearson.
