Description
This was one of the most difficult lists I have ever made. A lot of tough decisions and cuts had to be made. I built this on a mixture of watching film and having access to certain analytics for these players. One of if not the biggest aspect was just how much upside do I think a certain player had.

I personally have him cracking that top 50. Probably 40-45 range.

He’s a future All-Star. NHL ready. He’s 6’2, 205 already. Fast, play-maker, scores. And good two-way.

And like I said, already lighting it up in the Q, and on the 1st line for the Canadian WJ team this year. So far, he’s the stand-out in try-outs/camp.

How do you have Mavrik Bourque top 50 and not Poulin?

The one difference that separated the two of them for me is that Mavrik was a more talented puck carrier/distributor. That is the main difference that stood out for me. They are very close though Poulin barely missed

Valimaki should be quite a lot higher imo. He's playing very well against men right now, cannot say the same for the majority of the players on this list

I also don’t see Holloway here. He has to be better than some of the players, or is it like the Broberg thing?

Pretty similar to broberg, I think he has the tools he just needs to put it all together

Yeah I was thinking about it, but from what I’ve watched of him he’s not very good defensively, even compared to another guy who is doing really well in the Liiga right now in Heinola. I don’t know I really like him but he is 22 now and I think the guys ahead of him still have a lot more to show where I feel Valimalki is slowly capping off in his play

Okay I would’ve done this differently, but I respect your decision.

So young and under-sized. He looks like a baby!!

He’s 5’8, 162 right now..lol.

Brayden Point is 2 inches taller and 4 lbs heavier.
Johnny Gaudreau 1 inch taller and 3 lbs heavier.
Elite NHLers are smaller nowadays.

What is your point?

Yes, Like M.St.Louis. Im not saying smaller players can’t be successful. It’s just rarer. Especially under 5’10, 170 pounds. 5’10-6’0 175-200 pounds is average size. 6’1-6’3 190-210 pounds is good size. 6’3, 210 pounds or bigger is a big player, great size. 5’9, 175 pounds or below is under-sized. It’s not impossible. Just a lot of smaller players can get pushed around in the more Physical NHL. That shouldn’t be new news!! Yes, they can succeed, but they have to be really fast and strong skaters in order to do so. And most under-sized players don’t play in the NHL until 22-23 year old or older. Until they get their “man body” and get stronger.

I think he's one of those rare exceptions though. His scoring is off the charts and he didn't seem to be pushed around playing against top NCAA teams with players four years older than him. In the NCAA so far this year he's got 4 goals and 4 assists in 6 games.

Ya, I’m a fan!! Can’t wait to see him the NHL. I think at his size though, he’s still 3 years away. IMO, we won’t see him till he is 22 years old. That’s why he fell a bit in the draft. They knew he was 3-4 years away. He would have been top 5 if he had better size. Atleast 5’10, 170 pounds and he would have been atleast a top10 pick.

But yes, he’s produced everywhere he’s been. And I’ll take an under-sided player that produces on the ice everywhere he’s been than a workout warrior that has a big body/frame and looks good In the gym and looks good in his pads. And doesn’t produce stats when he’s on the ice. I’m not a huge combine guy for football. Their is some merit to it. But you have to have the production too. You have to be able to produce number when u play!!
