Tampa could very easily just trade Paquette on his own to save 2 million in cap space without taking back dead weight contracts

I think the Pens say yes and run away happy. We’ll take Sutter for a 7th round pick and 2M retained. Sutter for 2.3M this year and a Free agent and expiring contract at years end. He would help our 3rd line for sure and big help on our 2nd PP unit. We need the right-handed shot. Email JR, hopefully he can help Vancouver fans out. Lol.

There aren't any bottom feeder teams that are going to take those contracts for a late 1st and a late 2nd

This is the kind of spicy acgm posts that I like

So tampa takes 9 million in cap from Canucks in beagle, eriksson for 9 million in killorn and gourde, plus 1.6 for Paquette? I agree with above comments, they can get a 2nd for cernak alone and trade pacqutte not as a dump. this doesn't actually save tampa that much money as far as I can tell

If Mark Staal can move for a 2nd you could absolutely find a team to take on those contracts for a 1st, 2nd, and prospect. I'd be willing to add a 3rd if it's that big of a deal

Completely agree.. Van is only helping Van here. Take cernak and paquette out of that deal and it’s still a no. Change Killorn to TJ and it’s still a no.

but not really, because tampa still has to go and do the legwork to dump the bad contracts

what you have proposed is essentially canucks and tampa swapping large contracts (note that tampa's contracts that they're dumping are substantially less negative value than the canucks contracts). then tampa has to dump the bad canucks contracts. why wouldnt they spend less to dump their own, and not lose a player like paquette who's making <2 million?

The second deal would obviously be in place before the 1st happens. It's essentially just a three-way trade. Also, Tampa can keep Paquette if they want doesn't really matter to me

Let me put it this way:

Canucks side of the deal:
Cernak, Erik [RFA Rights]
Gourde, Yanni
Killorn, Alex
Paquette, Cédric
All positive value players, except mayyybe Gourde. Killorn might be a wash. The canucks could conceivable turn around and deal any one of these players without losing any assets.

Tampa side:
Eriksson, Loui
Beagle, Jay
Focht, Carson
2021 1st round pick (VAN)
2023 3rd round pick (VAN)
Eriksson's contract has tremendous negative value, i.e. it would cost something like 2 1sts to dump him straight up. Beagle is probably close to neutral. Focht is a 5th rounder and hasn't made too much noise so we'll treat him as a 5th. Could tampa dump Eriksson and Beagle for a 1st, 3rd, and Focht (5th)? Probably not. So this side of the deal has negative value, meaning tampa gave away cernak's rights and pacquette for less than nothing

Exactly.. so basically Tampa tells you to keep the players and leave the picks on that deal. Then Vancouver can try to flip beagle and Eriksson for what the real value is.

Mark Staal had 9nly 9ne year left on his deal not 2 like Beagle and Eriksson that is a huge difference
