I think Rangers biggest issue was how bad their D let Carolina forward walk all over them specifically Trouba and Deangelo. One of those 2 needs a defensive partner. Lindgren will play with Fox and K’Andre with Trouba. Now find Deangelo a shutdown partner.

Fair. My thinking was the Rangers have a huge opportunity to win in 21/22.
Relying on Lindgren and Miller for top 4 roles is a bit risky for me. Would love to see them trade a pick + for a solid LHD.

(Buchnevich + Lundkvist) for (Sanford+ Gunnarsson or Scandella + 1st Round Pick)

Gunnarsson if you want a good LHD but who historically probably can't give you 82 games, which could work in your favor if you want to give Miller/Lindgren some NHL reps, low money and low term guy. Played very well with Pietrangelo the last few years so can stand up with elite players like Fox.
Scandella if you want a better player, but costs a bit more and is signed for four more years. Has the same hit as Buchnevich. Decent Seattle exposure if you don't need him after next year. Played very well with Parayko this year.

Blues just have too many LHD now with Krug and we could use some righty depth.

Sanford is Buchnevich light, probably more of high end third line guy than a true top six impact but will probably never cost more that 3.5 million, currently signed through next year at 1.5 million. I'd take the slightly better player for more cap hit (now and later) with Tarasenko hurt and Schwartz likely walking next year, while your top six is getting pretty crowded with Panarin/Kaapo/Kreider/Lafreniere/Kratsov all pushing for those roles long term as well as Buch.

Basically a cap netural move all around. Adds 1.5 to Rangers if you take Scandella instead of Gunnarsson. Would like Lundkvist to eventually supplant Faulk (the sooner the better) and Rangers probably don't have room for him with Trouba locked up long term and Fox/DeAngelo looking great.

First round pick to make up the value of Sanford vs Buchnevich and the older (but proven) guys who can make an impact now versus the unproven (but probably good, but also blocked by players already on the team) guy.

Think it addresses everyone's stuff pretty well. Would have given you guys a retained Bozak too until you re-signed Strome to fill in middle six center duties.
