Matt Roy is more than throw in.
Should be late pick or meaningless piece from LAK.

Also - Arizona may not have space to take Killorn. But Fisher is good idea.

The whole premise for LA taking Johnson's 4 year contract is to get a good prospect and a 1st. Which will be closer to being a 2nd rounder. Why would LA give a prospect back?

I think a 1st + Raddysh is way too much to take on Johnsson contract so I send a decent RHD back to TBL

    Several reasons:

1, the kings have more than enough center depth with Kopitar, Vilardi, Lizotte for this season and Byfield, Turcotte, Madden, Kupari, Anderson-Dolan, Thomas, and Andersson in waiting. They need these positions open in the coming years while the kids compete.

2, Johnson's contract will be a liability during compete years (a few years from now)

3, Matt Roy is probably the first big defensive success since Blake took over, he was named rookie of the year and best defenseman by the team, losing him would require more moves to fill his position.

4, The Kings biggest strength this season is cap space over the next two seasons, they could get a first rounder for taking on a contract with shorter term and not impact their compete window.

I think there are several teams this Johnson trade would work for, it's just not the Kings.

Drop Raddysh and Roy and I think the Kings would do it. The Kings could throw in a project prospect like Luff or Brickley if Tampa wanted something back.

Oh I'm well aware he is good, he could absolutely play a top 6 role for the Kings for a season or two, but I feel like his best years would be wasted in LA and he would become more of a liability at the tail end of his contract when the Kings are ready to compete which is not worth it to a team who has done so much to shed contracts that take players into their mid-30s. Like I said seems like a good deal for other teams, I just don't see it for the Kings.

I gather that the original trade had Raddysh and Roy in it, but the OP has changed it to Luff for Johnson and a first. Now I think that the pendulum has swung too far the other way. I would happily exchange Luff and some low draft pick for Johnson (with no pick).

If the Kings wanted Johnson, they could have had him for free off waivers a few weeks ago. I can't imagine they'd give up Luff and a pick for him now.

Johnson is a cap dump. He has been in decline for a few seasons now. I think he's still a good middle-six player and would be an upgrade for LA at 3C, at least in the short term. However, if he continues to decline, his awful contract will be terrible value in just a couple years. Also, with the new rules that NTCs cannot be voided after a trade, Johnson can veto any trade if the Kings want to move him in a couple years when they need to give extensions of their own.

With the term remaining on it, I wouldn't take Johnson's contract for anything less than a 1st round pick.

He's gonna play in the AHL and I'm sure playing in LA ( in the NHL ) with a nice weather is more appealing than going in the bus

Why would Sergachev and Cirelli take so little. If thats what they want, the contracts would be done by now.

Well, given the Kings' salary structure (considering Iafallo and Kempe in particular), and the fact that we already have two aging veterans at RW, you're probably right, although I'd like to point out that after this season, there are only 10 teams that he could not be traded to. Since we need space to allow the youngsters to develop, and we're REALLY helping Tampa out here, we should be getting a premium reward for taking Johnson off their hands.

Not so easy. Killorn probably has hot mess ARZ on his list, ARZ is maxed out, TJ and LAK say no thanks. It would cost a 1st, 2nd & player to shed TJ and his 4yr term, which is why it won't happen. TJ won't be riding the bus either, as that doesn't save them cap. Seems like damaged goods Stamkos will miss most of season anyway. Could get away with Stamkos ltir for half season and trading Killorn, if not either Serg/Cirelli would have to go.

Super easy, You're at least $1 million under both Cirelli and Sergachev. Why would Killorn waive for Arizona? And why would Johnson waive for LA knowing full well that California taxes will eat him alive?
