I'm just incredibly disappointed that you didn't manage to work out a way to get Ryan Strome involved in all this tomfoolery.

Okay. Let's look at the trade logic, one by one:

NYI wins two of the next three Cups and then stays decent. Kane, Toews, and Keith waive their NMCs together when they see that they're being traded all together, with some more good players, to a playoff team, for just one of its two checking lines, plus some spare parts and bad contracts. Chi gets five or six decent prospects to rebuild around, a great checking line, and a ton of cap dumps. Chicago is the league's attendance leader, so if there's ever a time for them to rebuild the old fashioned way, it's the year when there might not be fans in the stands, suffering. Makes sense, so far, even if it'd be about the biggest trade in NHL history, and realistically it would only have about seven or eight players, plus picks.

The NYR trade is awful for Chicago. They give up a big piece of their rebuild to dump Casey Cizikas' contract to a team that would almost take him for free if it wasn't helping their cross-town rivals win the Cup. Have to find a different landing spot for Cizikas. Maybe Tampa; he used to play with Stamkos in junior.

EDM trade makes general sense: Leddy>Neal at lower cap hit, so some prospects get thrown in. I'm not sure who those guys are, or where the exact value is, but Edmonton picking up a left defenseman with some power play skills while Klefbom is on LTIR makes sense. They have other wings as good as Neal.

Buffalo passes, definitely. Okposo>Boychuk right now, and Buffalo wants to make the playoffs with Staal and Hall.

SJ trade is pretty even, but SJ might prefer to keep Jones and hope he bounces back. Or they might be happy to give Subban a real shot. Value hinges on whether they think Dahlen is coming over eventually or not. If he isn't, then moving on from Jones at no real cost could be good for them.

NJ know Subban had a career worst year, but they're not paying to dump him. Picks go the other way on that, or more likely it just doesn't happen. NJ traded for a good LHD to help Subban bounce back. Now they're going to keep him until the trade deadline and at least trade him for the pair of 2nds he rode in on.

Van buying cap space? Fine. 3M/year x 2 equals 6M. A 6M cap dump of Staal cost NYR a 2nd, last month. Lind is a 2nd who hasn't played in the NHL yet. That's the right ballpark, although Van probably prefers to just offer a pick, unless they've got too much depth. Pretty close.

Pageau for Little is a big giveaway, and Chi needs a pick in that, since Little is on LTIR and Pageau isn't.

Holden and Bortuzzo at negative value? Highly unlikely, but under a flat cap, remotely possible, if their teams sign other guys and no one claims them on waivers. Less than .01% chance each, but possible.

Janmark for Abramov? No way. Abramov is a long term part of Ottawa's plans, basically untouchable. Janmark is a UFA who just signed in Chicago after playing checking line and PK all the way to the Finals with the Stars. They absolutely wouldn't trade him without playing him first, unless he publicly demands it. Of course, after the NYI trade, he might, but even if he does, Ottawa passes and tells Chicago not to call back until they've been through rehab.

What makes the NYI trade unlikely isn't that it's too many pieces, of course. What makes it unlikely is that Chicago could get more on the open market if it trades each of those guys to a separate destination. But that depends on those three core guys waiving their NMCs, which they might not do separately, to go to just any team. Trading them all together to make the Islanders into a ridiculously great team gets them to waive and, while the above isn't it, the Islanders do have enough young players and prospects to offer a fair return for Chicago's core. That one does need some work, but Abramov? Not gonna happen.
