I mean that trade is just stupid for the Leafs to do, on another note Carolina wont be trading Dougie for futures since they are closer to winning the cup than Toronto.

There is a good chance that tandem is addressed this offseason. With Reimer being owed so little they can probably sell him off for cap space to sign someone better

Please let me explain what’s in my mind with this:

First at all, there are rumors about the Canes asking for Andersen but when Dubas asked for Hamilton in return the Canes hung up.
For me personally, Hamilton is one of the best RD in the league and before his injury he was close to a Norris run.
But there is no need for the Canes giving one of their best pieces away, EXCEPT FOR A GOALIE.
And that was the point where I was thinking WHAT IF the Leafs “overpay” on DH.
The future picks is nothing the Canes should use then. Take it and try to sell it for a good backup goalie or something else.

With this tandem I think Canes and Leafs are on the same step!

With Jarry getting an extension in Steel City, Murray might be out of town. With a good RFA contract and GMs like to trade RFA rights I thought that Dermott and a late round pick could be enough for PIT to “let Murray go”. In the past there were rumors about Dubas trying to get Murray, even in the Kapanen deal.

And with TOR don’t having a 3rd rounder this year. I was just looking for a team, which could give the 3rd away for a decent D-Prospect.

I don't think with the current goalie market, that Andersen has as much value as he should. Andersen is a UFA to be at 5mil in a UFA market and trade market of Fleury, Murray, Holtby, Khudobin, Markstrom, etc, etc...

In fact, why doesn't CAR just get Murray for Jake Bean and a 2nd or better 3rd rounder from PIT, a better deal then TOR is offering here. Or if the rumours are true, take Fleury at half his salary and a 2nd from Vegas for nothing in return.

So removing the REAL need of CAR for a goalie in this TOR deal, do the rest of it add up for Hamilton? Probably not.

And Rosen isn't worth a 3rd.

And Wayne Simmonds isn't a 1st liner anymore, and you are relying cap wise on some very cheap and well under market veteran signings. I think the deals offered to Simmonds, demelo and perry, are hopeful at best, laughable at worst, and even at close to league minimum sign for that elsewhere at a team that's closer.

It doesn’t matter if you think you are overpaying for Hamilton, we aren’t selling him for later half picks, Andersen who didn’t do well, Johnsson who is coming back from a bad injury, and some late picks.

Toronto doesn’t have the prospect capital to make that deal work.

How does a guy that goes undrafted and has played a total of 20 games move you up 90 spots in the draft?
