That seems a tad excessive for one guy. I count 3 former 1st-rounders, a 32OA, a 1st round pick, a guy who puts up #1 G numbers and a 3rd. That's a lot of quality, inexpensive youth that were expected to fill in gaps gone for one guy. They're going to be in cap hell in short order with a deal like that.

Fair enough on Gibson - he's fantastic and his contract is as good as Mac's but the Avs will have major problems building a team out in front of him if they trade away the most of the best of their young guys. It gets too expensive if you can't have some of those younger guys get into the lineup at some point because then you have to pay more for older guys. I would think there could be something of a middle ground where the Avs don't have to give up Newhook and Kaut but the Ducks get the value they want for their rebuild.

I get where you're coming from but none of those guys are at the level of Newhook - he's the future 2C once Kadri is gone. Bowers is a bottom-six guy, probably the same for Beaucage and Ranta. Again, I understand why you'd ask for those guys but that is going to deplete the Avs of their top level of prospects plus they lose their 1st this year. All things considered, it's probably not in their best interest to do that kind of deal.
