Thats a funny joke, 2 players with big contracts who would probably be in the AHL, a prospect who's stock has been going down for years and a late first. Nice try

Hardly, i think that its very close. OEL is not waiving besides Boston and Vancouver. Both teams would have to dump salary or its impossible deal to complete. This is a move from a team that has no real money in Arizona. Seen this type of trade before many times before the Cap world put teams on an even playing field til the pandemic hit. Baseball has this happen all the time!

Virtanen is signing far above that number 2.5m-3m. He can go to arbitration and get it easily with comparables

Two horrible pieces plus a prospect that may never see the NHL doesn't get you a perennial all star, especially when they have so many pieces that get paid too much that they can move.

From 2019

"A trade might make more sense next off-season, particularly if he has a better year. By that time, most of his hefty signing bonuses will have been paid out, making him a little more palatable for a cash-strapped, but cap-rich team."

Exactly what Arizona is at this moment. No real money but high cap hit.

Boston does significantly better than this almost immediately. This is a great thing for Boston if this is all Vancouver offers.

Math is hard

Eriksson makes 1 million in base salary. Bonus this year is paid. 6 million cap hit

Baertschi makes 2.4 million in base salary. No bonus. 3.366 cap hit

Ekman Larsson 4 million in base salary. Bonus is paid. 1 more bonus remains on a contract that stretches 7 more years.

Arizona saves 0.6 million this year. The Yotes don’t care about the cap hit. Vancouver do care so they can fit OEL contract. This makes the deal a possibility. Forget even the real money here for now.

Following season in 2021 and beyond… This is what makes Arizona happy!

Baertschi contracts come off the books. 0$

Eriksson contract in final year. Bonus is 1 million and base salary is 3 million. 4 million total

OEL contracts really kicks in 10.5 million in base salary. 10.5 million dollars for a team with no money.

Arizona will save 6.5m in real salary

2022

Eriksson contract is gone. Hoorah. Zona is very happy.

Arizona saves 10.5 million in real salary in 2022 and so on..

Please tell me how this doesn’t help Arizona financially?

Do the math. Boston also needs to shed cap hits. Same problem. Boston is a cap team. I'm not going through it again on Boston side.

Has nothing to do with what I said... Boston easily puts together a better package than what is posted above. That's what I said, what you said in reply to that has nothing to do with it. I've seen you all over posts about OEL and other things, you're just kind of a bitter old man, unless you have something to say about what I have said please just reply to other people. Thank you!

perennial all star

Ekman-Larsson has never in his career been a first or second team end-of-season all-star. If you mean all-star game, then sure, but only by virtue of Arizona having literally no one else who could make the grade.

No. They don’t.

Why do you think Arizona came around to OEL again to expand list?
Because Boston and Vancouver aren’t even offering a 1st rounder and a prospect.

OEL would be given away if not for appearances. Benning and Sweeney know this.

I’d argue Vancouver can give dead cap hits with no money unlike Boston whom would have to give up legitimate pieces.

Baertschi can be sent to minors no problem for more cap savings. Which Boston player with a high cap hit would accept that?

I’ve spoken about this enough if you can’t do the math. I’m wasting my time here. That’s why I won’t do Boston. The experts will explain once the deal is done. I’ve simply got ahead of it here.

What ppl miss here is that Eriksson and Baertschi are not a favour to the Canucks. They are a favour to the Yotes in enabling the cap hit exchange

Nobody wants that contract. It’s insane! AquilinI and Jacobs are probably trying to be convinced right now by the GMs

Fair, I am trying to say that whatever Vancouver has put forward has not been attractive to Arizona clearly and Boston has better prospects to throw their way. That vampire Jim Benning won't bend another GM over a barrel

Thanks for spelling this out for me, this was my thinking exactly.

Taking on $3.4m and $4m in bad contracts for 2020 and 2021 is not so bad in the context of getting out from the $54m still owed to OEL. Plus they get a 1st and a former 1st prospect.

Arizona doesn't have any leverage here - it is between Vancouver and Boston and I can't see Boston giving up their 1st when they could resign Krug at a similar/lower cap hit while retaining assets. Hard to imagine OEL starting next season with the Coyotes after all this, they are running out of options.

Context is easy to see. The return is a 1st and a prospect. I explained the financials. Proving everything you said wrong would take too long of a post.

Simply ignore them.
All these trolls know how to do is throw insults.
We are the talking about financials of a team that hasn’t paid their rent all year. I haven’t heard this brought up once but petty crap

Kid your insults aren’t impressing anyone. Back to the basement. I’ve spelled it out for you.

Honey, you have to understand, there lies the whole story! You think that impressing someone on CapFriendly is important! I’m sorry that that’s your prerogative and this is the top of the mountain for you! You’re wrong though, and the “experts” will explain that when the trade happens for either more than what you claim or doesn’t happen at all you can head back to the well you came from.

You know financially isn't the only thing for Arizona, this isn't Peter Chiarelli, if that's what was being offered any team could beat that. I dont know how u think this is a fair trade
