you wouldnt get hamilton without giving marner/nylander. also, i think the leafs shouldnt trade for hamilton if there isnt an extension in place

signing Ben Hutton isn’t necessary, saving the cap to extend Hamilton is a better idea.
Spezza is a lot cheaper than Larson.
Engvall should not be scratched.

this isn’t necessarily directed toward you, but everyone one this cite.
why does Hamilton have so much value? he was injured and is a rental....
meanwhile, players like Johnsson, or anyone else who had injuries, values significantly decrease ?
I just don’t understand

Yea, Hamilton is on a 1 year deal lol. The idea is, being an internal cap team, you get your starting goalie (along with a 1st and prospect) along with the cap space in a years time to resign guys like Svech.

Johnsson had one decent season, hamilton is very good and was heading towards a Norris finalist type season

Spezza doesn’t provide anything this team needs, he won’t be back. Larsson is one of the best shut-down centres in the league.

Don’t see CAR willing to move on from Hamilton until he prices himself out Raleigh. Negotiations haven’t started yet, so I’d imagine he’s not going anywhere any time soon.

The difference is Hamilton has one year left. If Dubas trades either Marner or Nylander, controlled young assets, for 1 year of Hamilton, he’d lose his job. Hamilton with an extension is another conversation but this isn’t that.

Hamilton was playing at a Norris level back in December. The injury hurt the hurricanes deeply.

He’s a top 15 defenseman in the league. Even as a rental he’ll fetch Nylander/Marner/Laine.

The mythical sign and trade? Because otherwise they are trading a rental. Leafs could negotiate a contract with hamilton as could any other team in FA.

No he will not. Please come up with one example of a rental Dman or any player for that matter having a return of a star pkayer with term.

i said it would be with an extension already coming with the trade like the pageau trade at last years deadline. plus i doubt carolina would settle with less than a top six forward if they for some weird reason traded hamilton

Because every prospect will turn out to be better than Nylander. Rossi will be an elite superstar there is no doubt. Definitely better than a 30 goal 70 point player. Everyone knows Nylander is just a 60 point winger leaving his prime.

It's the rules, all Leaf players are worthless. All are overpaid and only get points because they play with Matthews or Tavares. All of them, every forward on the leafs gets points on the same line as Matthews. Apparently the Leafs get away with having all 12 forwards on the ice at the same time.

Thing is, players like Nylander becoming available, signed affordably with term I might add, are rare. I truly believe there would be A LOT of competition to land the player. As a result I can’t see a realistic scenario where theyd need to trade Liljegren too just to get a 1st and a player back. If you look at the trade in a vacuum of course you want to offer less to get him. It’s going to sting a little but you have to give to get. Holl is a very serviceable player too, you aren’t getting just Willy here.

No he isn't. Put him against Matthews, or Crosby, MacKinnon or any other top centre all the time and he'll get scored on a lot more than he prevents. Any 3C is going to get wrecked against a 1C. Now a 1C who is great at possession and great defensively is a true shutdown guy. Matthews is turning into that. He defends very well and also creates so much offence he keeps other top players away from the offensive zone.

I think Carolina has every intention of resigning Hamilton. Hes been fantastic for them and he seems to fit in quite well there. I dont think they would be shopping him at all and doubt they have much interest in a 3rd goalie
