Description
I see so many trash OEL trades its unbelievable, OEL is worth a lot, BUT! These are the terms of this deal in my eyes:
1. Arizona is not adding picks in any deal, they are acquiring them, 1st Round pick is a must after losing two picks for tampering. Thats what they want.
2. If this deal is happening and they are open to trading their captain, this is clearly money driven and lowers OELs value.
2. The Two team trade list lowers OELs value.
3. The only way the Canucks do this deal is if Eriksson goes the other way.
4. Canucks need to include a D Prospect.
5. Arizona is not retaining money.

Brenden Dillon has said he would love to play for the Canucks.

Lundqvist would be a good backup to Thatcher for a year.

If Ferland is done it gives them extra space to sign Leivo and maybe add a young player to the mix like Lind or Hoglander.

I dont think the Nucks need to give up a 1st anymore. Especially if Arizona doesn't retain. They dont have the money to pay OEL 10.5 m in real money for 2021 with no signing bonus. Add Loui as well as his 1 million salary is a dream with 28 million already paid up front.

ARI doesn't have the cash on hand to take that many contracts back. the whole point of them trading OEL would be to lower their Salary expense and get futures. Eriksson can't be part of that trade, virtanen is kind of a bust, and the prospect needs to be Podkolzin or Hoglander and a 1st

Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period suggests that Brandon Sutter is a trade piece to be included in any potential package that would send OEL to Vancouver, along with a defenseman who can play in the NHL and a first. I think the first is a stretch given his decline in play and his long contract. I’m not saying a first is out of play no no no. I think if there is a conditional pick that becomes a first if something is done, then chances are both parties do it. No one will take Eriksson, let alone at his cap hit.

Eriksson is owed 1 million in real dollars this yr, if a deal is to be had he would almost certainly be a part of it.

Pagnotta knows as much as us. Maybe less. Guy always trying to get ahead of stories with nothing concrete ie Lehner extension. Your underestimating the market for cash strapped teams with Eriksson. The landscape has changed.

I think people are going to be unhappy with the cost and it will be higher than you're all saying. If they are not getting what they wish (ie a first and/or good prospect) they can always just not trade him.

Or they do have to trade him which looks far more likely. The PK trade from last year looks to be a better template

We shall see, but my guess is based on your "my gawd" comment above, you are going to feel they overpaid. As you are well aware it is a guess, so we'll have to see in the end.

Exactly. If its anything above a 2nd and player like Virtanen, its an overpay. I don't see how OEL can even fit on the Nucks without bad money going the other way. They simply dont have the room. Hughes and Petey will go max dollars and term next year. Add the fact they dont have a 1st rounder. Add the fact that the Yotes aren't retaining in this scenario. Virtanen, 2nd rounder is the best they can do. Otherwise Arizona will be screwed and have the dump other deals like Keller

The Canucks are a weird team cap wise. While outside of Ericson they don't have really terrible contracts but they have a tonne of mildly bad ones (Roussel, Beagel, Baertschi, etc)

They have zero wiggle room cause of JB the cowboy on free agency. Almost a good thing if they have no room on the cap but taking on OEL's contract is a nightmare long term! I also dont think Aquilini (rumours of internal cap) would be thrilled to trade away a low salaried player with a high cap hit for the highest salary player with a lower cap hit in OEL.

He's a damn, damn good drafter, a decent trader, a decent to good REsigner and a TERRIBLE free agent signer.

    Weird mix
