Haven't you heard? Roy is "untouchable" unless there is a 1st round pick involved. tears of joy

Roy is not untouchable. He just plays a position of need for LA. They're not going to trade him unless a player that fills a bigger position of need is coming back. Neither Kerfoot nor Dermott fit.

Roy for Mikheyev. No picks added either way. LA would consider that trade.

Hey, you remember rebuilding, if a team wants to take your best defensive player they are going to have to overpay. Feel free to tell me other $700K defensemen you can get who can play top 4 minutes.

I felt Kerfoot could do a good job for LA on the LW as a 3rd line option, or as a center. Yes this is a cap dump hence the addition of an added pick (this could easily be a 4th), and Dermott has a lot of talent and will be a top 4 guy down the line, feel he needs a change to kick start his career. Thanks for the feedback smile

Welcome to CapFriendly!

We're not denying that Kerfoot is a decent player, or that Dermott has a bright future. The problem is that we have no one to replace Matt Roy internally. We can't just make this trade and then go to training camp; we'd have to go out on the open market and find a free-agent RD to play significant minutes and do so at something like a minimum contract level, or else the "hidden" cost of this trade would go up dramatically. And if such a free-agent RD were available, couldn't YOU guys sign him?

Also, note the effect of the upcoming expansion draft. If we protect Dermott as a third defenseman, we'd have to expose one of Clague or Walker; if we protect him as one of 8 skaters, we'd presumably have to protect Iafallo and the three K's, so all of our other young forwards would be exposed. That means we'd have to risk losing the guy we consider to be the fourth best young forward on the team.

As the title suggests I was just putting my thoughts out in the open, now as a trade with Mikheyev was mentioned then this could be put into the trade instead. I was wondering 1. Would a move for Roy be possible as I see him as an excellent fit on that bottom pair for the leafs with time on the PK, and 2. If people agree with my opinion of him.

The leafs also need cap relief and the Kings are a team with cap room and one who have done a fair amount of business during the Dubas era, hence my thoughts at the time.

Well, this is where my esteemed colleague @tkecanuck341 and I diverge. I would be extremely loath to disturb our current defense and I wouldn't trade Roy (even for Mikheyev); I would protect Doughty (NMC), Clague, Roy and Walker* plus Kopitar, Iafallo, Kempe and whoever the brain trust deemed our fourth best forward (my personal preference is Martin Frk, but that's a little idiosyncratic). Tke would go the standard 7-3-1 and either trade Roy or lose him. You pays your money, you's takes your choice.

Many CF commentators highly value Roy.

*Anderson and Bjornfot are expansion-draft-exempt.

I've never advocated for going 7-3-1. I have consistently said Kings should go 4-4-1 and protect all the players you mentioned, but Wagner or Grundstrom over Frk.

I recall you saying that we would lose Roy to Seattle. I must have gotten that from somewhere else.
