Typically if you don't think a player will be picked up off waivers you need to send a pick for a team to take that cap hit.

I would imagine someone would probably pick him up off waivers, it would be very inconsequential

Maatta will get picked up off of waivers but his buyout is only $680K so we don't need to pay to move him. Caggs is worth more, likely a 4th or 5th round pick.

Leafs don't need another 4th liner

No way the Leafs trade 7th round pick (SJS). He is already becoming a fan fav and has a lot of potential. Going to have to give more then that the pry that gem from Toronto

Fleury is definitely a fun option to take over for a bit if Crawford isn't coming back. I like Roy too, I think him for Teply is fair value (or close to it). Not sure how keen Vegas would be on retaining 50% of his salary for two seasons. I think we'd either have to send an asset with money attached back (De Haan or Maatta?) to offset the transfer with value or just swallow the whole thing outright, which doesn't really work for us.

With this trade, I see it breaking down as

Roy for Teply
Fleury for Gilbert
2nd rounder for retention

Not horrible value honestly, I think I'd do this if Vegas offered

Yeah I'm not saying every team would. This trade isnt team specific. Generally unless its a gamechanging player, trading a dude for a low round draft pick is just a placeholder for any team with interest
