What teams have internal salary caps

Description
I can see some interesting trading from teams with:

Salary cap and actual salary room
Tight salary cap, don't care about money (Leafs, maybe the Rangers to a degree if they spend, not sure who else)
Salary CAP space but internal salary limitations

You wonder if two and three can meet and make interesting trades

ie a team like the Leafs trading Marner AFTER his signing bonus. Not saying the Leafs really want to do it, but that would be $30,300,000 of his $65,358,000 paid out, or over 40% of his contract.

He would then be owed $35,058,000 over 5 years which is $7,000,000 per year, or another way, a cheap year of $700,000 and then about 8.7 x 4 years...

Détails additionnels:
If this trade is done after signing bonuses they are paid fairly similarly over next two years.

Tkachuk 3.5 mil salary this year
9 mil salary the year after

Marner 700k salary this year
9.6 m signing bonus next summer and 750k salary next year

After that though, Marner is locked in to essentially 8.5 mil per year for four years, Tkachuk is going to want more, if they want to keep money below cap this could work

Wait. You're saying Marner only earns 700k this year? So Arizona or Ottawa could trade for him, get him a 100 point season, and then flip him in June without paying him a dime over league minimum?

That would be a lot of fun to watch. Wonder what kinds of picks/prospects they'd offer, to pad a deal centered around Ryan or Kessel.

Yeah the Flames aren't trading Tkachuk lol, we don't have the cap space for that, nor the desire to trade away the better player. Find another team to dump Marner's deal on

Check out his deal, its all signing bonuses.

He makes 700k or 750 k every year The two largest signing bonuses being the first two. So whenever the next one is paid out he's made 30 of 65 mil

Oh ya, Ken King is a garbage person who would cut costs whenever possible - the issue is your values are off, It would be Marner with retention and a 1st coming back for Tkachuk and a second. And that would only be if Johnny got shipped out.

I believe Norman Murray Edwards bankrolls the team. You'd think an oil baron worth 1.5 billion would have the cash to support a full staff and roster.

Flames would never trade tkachuk for marner. Marner is way overpaid flames don’t want to take on the 11 million cap hit. And marner is way worse than tkachuk. Marner is very one dimensional

Your missing my point.

If Calgary has an internal budget Marner will cost less than Tkachuk in cash. The larger cap hit is irrelevant if they're running an internal budget.

If the trade happens after signing bonuses Tkachuk makes about 12.5 million over the next two years compared to roughly 11 million for Marner so slight savings.

Then Marner is effectively locked in to an 8.65 million contract (cash wise) for 4 years.

The Leafs as of the signing bonus being paid have paid 30 of 65 million.

In the end logic would state Calgary doesn't really make sense to have this discussion with as they shouldn't be salary limited, but I was just using them as I read they are

Marner is better offensively but not by much, marner only has 50 more points and tkachuk has played less games. Tkachuk draws the most penalties in the league, tkachuk is a leader, tkachuk plays good defense and tkachuk is very physical and tkachuk will fight. So tell me how marner is even close to tkachuk, also tkachuk has 4 mil less cap hit

Again if you read the above, you'll see the argument is that his cap hit is irrelevant as its cash, and Marner is likely to be paid less cash after they both get their signing bonuses over the next 5 years.

In regards to drawing penalties, that tends to not be a skill that lasts all that long, as ref's get tired of you. Kadri was a leader in that for about 3 years straight, now he can't get a penalty to save his life, as the ref's don't trust him.

In regards to offense in the last two years Marner has 161 points in 141 gp, to Tkachuk's 138 points in 149 gp or in their careers, Tkchauk has 235 points in 293 GP to Marner's 291 pts in 300 GP.

While its technically almost true that , "marner only has 50 more points and tkachuk has played less games", in actuality Marner has 53 more points, but more importantly the "less games" is 7 games. 300 GP compared to 293 GP.

Look they're both super talented players, and Marner is actually good defensively (he was actually voted 14th in Selke votes last season (https://www.hockey-reference.com/awards/voting-2019.html#selke)), you can be good defensively without being physical (the greatest defensive player of this generation, Nik Lidstrom, was not particularly physical)), but they are different.

I only made this thread as it was suggested (surprisingly to me) by TSN that Calgary was on a budget and thus would care more about cash than cap
