Launching a retool is probably a smart move for them

Créé par: LafreniereIsGOATed
Équipe: 2020-21 Predators de Nashville
Date de création initiale: 10 sept. 2020
Publié: 10 sept. 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Basically they do a 2-3 year retool (by the end of it (say, at the end of the 22-23 season), the Blues might start to decline a bit while the Jets and Avs will have peaked. So NSH bets that they can start a 23 year SC window starting in 23-24 and ending in 25-26.

Johansen does check a lot of boxes for the Wild and I would love to get rid of Zuccarello...but, I wouldn’t give up the Pittsburgh pick to make this swap. I think there is a decent chance that pick is a top 10 pick. I would consider a top 15 protected 1st, take out the 3rds, and talk Zuccarello into waiving his NMC. Maybe he likes country music...

I mean at 6 mil Zuc kinda is a cap dump so that's why the 3rds are there

I like the idea of acquiring picks, but no way we get a 2nd for Rinne when there are so many FA goalie options. Don't mind the Ekholm trade either, but I don't see him getting traded in division.

Zucc is great but, but now we'd be hamstrung with him and Turris for the next 4 years!? No thanks. Granlund is gone. This is a retool, but where are our top prospects? No Tomasino, Tolvanen or Davies.

At least we'd get lottery picks for the next couple years in this scenario, maybe that's the point...

Both players are cap dumps...and...Zuccarello might (might) even be the better player.

Johansen is still a decent 2C where as Zuc has been playing at a 3rd line level.

Might want to remove one 3rd but not both

Johansen is a mere shadow of his former self...and no longer even a “decent 2C.” The more i think about this, the more i think this should be a 1:1 trade...if even made at all.

He's one year removed from having 64 pts...

Zuc on the other hand has had troubles scoring for years now and has a worse deal

To be fair, Johansen and his line was a lone bright spot in the "playoffs" AKA those 4 games we played against the Coyotes. Poor guy just suffers from a torn motivator cuff in the regular season.

You wont catch me talking up Zucc very much, that’s for sure...but I think Johansen is cooked.
My line in the sand here would be: Zucc (750,000 retained) for Johansen straight up. I would happily walk away from any other deal.

Caps decline.

Will sign a cheaper goalie in FA without giving up picks. Plus, don't try to cap dump to a team that needs to cap dump themselves (Panik / Hagelin / Kempny). Save that for Detroit, Ottawa, New Jersey, etc

It's really a $7M cap dump, when you consider the retention on Johnasen. But even taking on a $6M cap dump is worth a lot more than two 3rds. Sorry, but this is awful for NSH.

The value in the Ekholm trade is probably even, but I'm not a huge fan of the package from WPG. Maybe take out Niku, and upgrade one of the 2nds to a 1st?

Rinne's not going anywhere.

Ekholm would be nice for the Jets, but Winnipeg won't give up Samberg or that many assets for a rental.

He's got 2 years left, but I agree. Too much for 2 years of Ekholm. Samberg is projected to be pretty good. I would like to see the jets ease him in on his ELC to see what they got

I think the Caps would be pretty interested in Ekholm if he’s available. I’d offer Kempny + Siegenthaler +, not sure what the additional plus should be though.

Because he'll be 32 when this contact finishes and the is no guarantee he will re-sign. Too much risk for the Jets.

Extention: roughly the same deal as Muzzin (they are very similar players)

The guy is at an age where he wants to win. Your team would be perfect for that
