The Kapanen trade was bad, but it wasn't THIS bad. Rutherford isn't Chiarelli. If this is the basis of a Letang trade, then he should be fired.

Rutherford simply targets the player he wants and pays the asking price to get what he wants - Pens may want to add a top 4 Dman but they won't be using Letang to do it, as for the Kapenen trade - it's quite common for teams to pony up a 1st rnd pick plus a prospect to aquire a top 6 F which is where Pens whole heartedly plan to play Kap

Pretty much everyone has agreed that the return for Kapanen was a significant overpayment. The 1st round pick could have been justified if Rutherford really liked the player and Dubas wouldn't budge on the asking price, but the first round pick plus Hallander is indefenseable. It's not Hall for Larsson bad, but it's still pretty bad.

That's correct, we are all just speculation and really have no concrete knowledge of what a players value truely is or how they are valued in the hockey world
