Hayes and Saad both are signed through 2026, two years
Pens basically extend Smith by a year here (Saad) and that's it, Hayes and Acciari have the same term
...and Hayes and Saad are younger, so less age related risk

I don't see those two as any more risk than keeping Acciari and Smith, who they already know don't fit

Dubas is taking on 6 years and $24m for two 3rd line players while giving up three years and $9m on a 3rd liner and 4th liner. If he wants to get fired, this would be a good start. It makes little to no difference on the roster and massive difference on the balance sheet. Which is almost a guaranteed bad decision in the cap era of roster management.</div></div>

I guess if we felt Toropchenko needed moved up to the 3rd line it could work. I get that the idea is to cut bait on some term on the contracts. Hayes has been fine, Saad is what he is. Very streaky, but will get to 20 goals and 40 points or so. I have no reason to care to keep either player that the Blues would move here, but i don't really see where the two returning would fit either too much.</div></div>
Pens get slightly better players, Blues get cap sooner is how I see it
Pens' best chance of being competitive is finding better fits for similar players
Blues could probably dump those two easier than Saad and Hayes given NTCs

Acciari is 2M on the cap for 3 more years and he's older and less productive
Eller would be even better as a 4C

- 3C gets 40+ points only by playing PP. Pens are the most disappointing with PP this year. Slow Hayes can take a spot in front of goalies but will not help much.
- Blues paid 7th to take Hayes with 50% retention after his 50+ points season. You offer a way too much.
- Hayes is a good player but he is not known to be a leader, he will not improve the team's morale and motivation.</div></div>
Pens aren't rebuilding and have more than enough leadership

Carter has no desire to go back to Philly, there was a ton of fallout from that offseason trade moving on from both he and Richards. If anything I bet he'd rather retire a King.
He wouldn't waive because he wants to stay on a team that's gunning for a Stanley Cup push, it's his final season.
Smith at this point isn't worth anything. They tried to trade him and even waived him and no one took him... that tells you all you need to know about his value.</div></div>
Weirdly confident on the first point, no one knows what will happen, the world is a mystery
That was 10+ years ago? Are you his therapist?
You don't get your name on the cup if you don't play... I imagine he wants to play. He already has his cups
Smith has value <em>because</em> he's cleared waivers.... so he doesn't have to go back through to develop in Philly's system... he also has the same stat line as Frost this season...

The Flyers deal is the troll post.
You know they wouldn't trade with the penguins let alone give Frost away for basically nothing. Plus you also know Carter isn't waiving to go anywhere, specially not back to Philly lol</div></div>
Pretend there's a third team like the Streit deal (but there are new front office folks on both sides, who cares)
Carter and Frost have a near identical stat line this year, and a 2nd + Smith is not 'nothing'
Why would Carter not waive? He played with Briere, could retire a Flyer, and the whole thing with him coming to Pittsburgh was proximity to family in central PA

Frost is off to a bad start but, at 24 and after last season I'd think he's worth a little more than what you're offering, maybe an additional 4th. Not a big difference but, that trade looked like one of those so close but, for far situations</div></div>

Also if you think a Center is worth the same as a depth defenseman you don’t know what you’re talking about lol. Centers are always valued higher than anyone other than maybe RHD.</div></div>
POJ is a closer to a 3/4 than a 'depth defenseman'

Thought that package value was decent, 2nd round value (POJ) for player, 2nd round pick for retention

Ignoring that you’re looking at a small sample size… Ruhwedel is more consistent/healthy/defensively talented. Both are 6/7s at this point and one costs less, with less term on his deal for added flexibility
Especially see it as fair value given that it appears Timmins will be lost on waivers if not moved
