Which Evander Kane trade?
2015-Feb-11 Traded from Winnipeg Jets with Jason Kasdorf and Zach Bogosian to Buffalo Sabres for Drew Stafford, Brendan Lemieux, Joel Armia, Tyler Myers and round 1 pick in the 2015 draft (Jack Roslovic)
2018-Feb-26 Traded from Buffalo Sabres to San Jose Sharks for Danny O'Regan, conditional round 1 pick in the 2019 draft (Brayden Tracey) and conditional round 4 pick in the 2019 draft (Ethan Keppen)
More seriously, they're not comparable. Let's put aside Kane's discipline issues and the fact that he had never scored 30 goals in a season to that point, this was a trade deadline deal. Add to that Kane has always been branded a selfish player who started making $5.25M at a time when the cap was scarcely $70M, so he was always seen as disappointing versus the cap. Gallagher's contract is $3.75M and has never had a reputation of being anything other than the consummate team player. But most important is Kane was traded AT THE DEADLINE, with no promise of re-signing. A trade done at the draft would give Colorado a year of Gallagher on an amazing contract and plenty of time to have him settle in a re-sign with the Avs. Again, situation is not comparable.
the most recent one.
they are comparable. very similar stats the last 3 years but kane has been more productive recently and throughout his career.
kane was traded at the deadline but it was obvious they were going to re-sign him. they re-uped him as soon as the playoffs were over and the picks even had conditions about him re-signing.
on top of that you have very few teams looking to or than can take on money or cap hit. not a sellers market this year.
he'd probably get a 1st, 3rd/4th, and a b/c level prospect. think 1st, 3rd, beaucage or 1st, 4th, kaut. the byrams and newhooks are off limits to montreal unless were talking about someone like suzuki with a long team friendly extension.
