If thats the price for Gally, AV writes an apology letter to Gally, sends a gritty hug-o-gram, and then Chucky two trades sends over something more enticing.

I was just about to say the same. The Avs are ready for prime time now and adding Gallagher would turbo charge them. As such, their draft picks are unlikely to produce much in the way of exciting prospects. Keep the picks, send Newhook and Conor Timmins.

that offer is laughable for gally!! 28 yr old who has never cracked 40pts and has never played a full season with a pick that will be over 15th overall for a guy who plays with heart every single night 40pts + and 2 30 goal seasons....that offer gets rejected instantly. You want gally....it starts with Newhook.

Stars say yes and thank you. I love Bishop but this is a bad reaction to a young goalie struggling early in his career and the trade wouldn’t age well. Rado fans shouldn’t be frustrated. You still have a young team and they’re getting the playoff experience that I believe will make them a dominant team for a good stretch

Which Evander Kane trade?

2015-Feb-11 Traded from Winnipeg Jets with Jason Kasdorf and Zach Bogosian to Buffalo Sabres for Drew Stafford, Brendan Lemieux, Joel Armia, Tyler Myers and round 1 pick in the 2015 draft (Jack Roslovic)

2018-Feb-26 Traded from Buffalo Sabres to San Jose Sharks for Danny O'Regan, conditional round 1 pick in the 2019 draft (Brayden Tracey) and conditional round 4 pick in the 2019 draft (Ethan Keppen)

More seriously, they're not comparable. Let's put aside Kane's discipline issues and the fact that he had never scored 30 goals in a season to that point, this was a trade deadline deal. Add to that Kane has always been branded a selfish player who started making $5.25M at a time when the cap was scarcely $70M, so he was always seen as disappointing versus the cap. Gallagher's contract is $3.75M and has never had a reputation of being anything other than the consummate team player. But most important is Kane was traded AT THE DEADLINE, with no promise of re-signing. A trade done at the draft would give Colorado a year of Gallagher on an amazing contract and plenty of time to have him settle in a re-sign with the Avs. Again, situation is not comparable.

the most recent one.

they are comparable. very similar stats the last 3 years but kane has been more productive recently and throughout his career.

kane was traded at the deadline but it was obvious they were going to re-sign him. they re-uped him as soon as the playoffs were over and the picks even had conditions about him re-signing.

on top of that you have very few teams looking to or than can take on money or cap hit. not a sellers market this year.

he'd probably get a 1st, 3rd/4th, and a b/c level prospect. think 1st, 3rd, beaucage or 1st, 4th, kaut. the byrams and newhooks are off limits to montreal unless were talking about someone like suzuki with a long team friendly extension.

Brannstrom 15th OA
Newhook 16th OA

So it would be Newhook + 1st to be more than Stone

Sure, it looks a bit that way, but at the time of the trade, Erik Brannstrom was the second-best rated D prospect in the league. To be fair, he has slipped a bit, but he's still #12 on THN's prospect list (Newhook is #13). The Stone trade also came at a moment when the Senators were running out of options, so LV could afford to play hardball and did. LV had also had the chance to speak with Stone and his agent, so they were confident that even if the deal didn't happen, Stone would surely be a UFA within a few months. And, to repeat a common refrain to the choir of people who heap scorn on Gallagher, prior to the trade, Stone had also never had a 30-goal season. Gallagher has had two already 30+ goal seasons and had 22 this season in 59 games. By comparison, Stone had 21 goals in 65 games, though he did have more assists than Gallagher.

Stone offered the same extension to the Sens but the Sens didn't want to sign it. They weren't forced to trade him.

Plus Gallagher has no guaranteed extension.

Now you're just spewing crud. Stone had signed a one-year extension to his second contract. The entire world knew Melnyk had told Pierre Dorion to trade Karlsson and Stone. Even my dog knew it. It wasn't a question of "if" but where. And, not to put too fine a point on it, Stone was traded 59 games into the last year of his one-year, $7.35M deal. Gallagher has a full season left on a $3.6M deal and has already voiced his preference for "certainty" -- or guaranteed money, as he called it -- over playing the field.

Anyway, take the deal or don't, but comparing Stone trade to Gallagher's situation is not a reasonable comparison.

So you're assuming that Gallagher is one-and-done? That's a weird assumption to make about most players, but him especially. Whatever floats your boat. FWIW, there was no way for Vegas to pre-sign Stone before the trade, so the risks were the same. He could have changed his mind about re-signing. Life doesn't come without risk, especially in the NHL.
