Strome had 58 points last season and was on pace for 54 points this season (prorated to 82 games). That's better then a 50 point season.
Roslavic was on pace for 33 points this season (prorated to 82 games), and 24 points the season prior.
For a Jets team that needs centers, roslavic couldn't earn ice time like Strome...that isn't saying a lot. These players are the same age, drafted the same year. Strome was #3OA and Roslovic #25OA; there is a reason for that and still is. NHL careers Strome 164 games 105 points; Roslavic 180 games 67 points. These players are NOT close at all and a 2nd round pick doesn't separate them.
Roslovic and a 1st, for Strome and 3rd...this was beaten like a dead horse a month ago on here by both sides fans and most agreed for good reason. Sure, the Jets can hopefully draft Lundell at #10, but Lundell's projection if he pans out is very much like Strome. So you have a sure thing or you take a chance is what it boils down to. The wild card here is whether Roslovic ever turns into anything more then a bottom 6 player and personally I don't think that will happen based on what I've seen of him. Jets fans on here largely agree which is why they are always trading him and searching for a real 2C.
Roslovic has been playing in the bottom six because maurice won’t play him at center and we have elite wingers in our top 6 already. On many teams, Roslovic would be a top 6 guy and would produce at least 40 pts (probably more). There’s only so much you can do playing 13-14 minutes a game with Lowry and copp in a shutdown role. All jets fans and anyone who has watched roslovic play for a game knows that he is capable of so much more, which he is only starting to show. Imo he will be a 60 pt player in the nhl, it’s just a matter if it’s at c with the jets or at the wing with another club. Roslovic is already a top 6 forward, and if you consider his past offseason improvements, I expect a big step forward from him.
As for strome? Lundell projects to be a selke candidate 1c, better than strome was ever projected to be. Strome is an offensive 2c with minor defensive issues. Lundell’s realistic floor (that is, assuming he isn’t a bust) is a more defensively responsible strome. They aren’t even close tbh.
Strome doesn’t hold his draft pedigree anymore. He was drafted to be a 1c. He at best will be a good 2c. Personally, I don’t see strome being more than a 60 pt center in his prime. Whereas Roslovic has only raised his draft stock since his draft. He is worth more than that 20 something pick he was drafted with. Therefore, the difference now not nearly as small. In fact, the difference is only in time as they both have similar potential.
Also if we were valuing at draft pedigree, it would’ve taken much more than schmaltz to get strome. In fact this deal is quite similar tbh. Schmaltz was a 2c and strome was of equal value to where Roslovic is now. Perlini was worth about a 2nd then imo. So about the same as Roslovic and a 2nd
As for the deal of Roslovic and a first for strome and 3rd? jets fans have been offering a 2021 first not 2020 and sure as hell haven’t been doing it since we ended up with 10th oa. The idea with the Roslovic and a first for strome and 3rd deal is that the first will be late as the jets should be contenders again with a 2c. So it’s Roslovic and a late first (not 10th oa) for strome and a 3rd, and tbh I’m still okay with that. However, I think you probably want the 2020 2nd instead huh?
