Any way you slice it I don't know how Tampa gets away without losing 3 players that are either top 9 forwards or top 4 D. They were already a cap team and just gave Vasi a (deserved) 6mil raise in a flat cap world. They were gonna have issues if the cap went up to 88mil, it staying at 81.5 is gonna gut this team. They have 3 major RFAs in Cirelli, Sergachev, and Cernak, all of whom can demand multiple million dollar raises. I'm not sure it's worth it trying to bridge all of them at 4-5mil (2-3 for Cernak) because then they just walk later (or the periphery pieces do). This way you recoup significant assets, and while next year might be a down year (by Tampa's standards lol, still a playoff team just probably not true contenders), after that you get good players on ELCs (Lundkvist, 2020 1sts/2nds, Foote/Vali are likely still affordable) until the cap starts going up again. Your top 6 forwards and top 3 defensemen are locked up for at least 3 years and there's solid young depth coming. A couple cheap veterans will be required in year 1, but the kids should take over after that (Foote moves into top 4 by 2021, Lundkvist slots in on the 3rd pair then, Vali bumps McDonagh to the third pair by 2023 at the absolute latest). Up front you have some solid grinders and good young players in the bottom 6, but the development system is good enough and the pipeline is plentiful enough (Volkov, Katchouk, ABB, Raddysh, Fortier) to replace them in the coming years if they earn a significant raise and have to be traded. This draft is a great draft to be acquiring early picks in, so it makes sense to bite the bullet now and be meh for 1 year, instead of doing it in 2-3 years and being bad for at least a couple years (by then some of these guys will have left in free agency rather than in trades). This is how they can retool on the fly with an eye to long-term stability and success, while still being a competitive, playoff calibre team in the short-term. Their window to win with this format is likely 2020 and 2022-27 and potentially longer if they're smart, rather than 2020-2024 and then be bad while Stamkos and Hedman are in their mid-30s. Worst case scenario here is having to trade one of TyJo or Killorn for cap room next summer, but the development of their prospects and insane skill in the remaining players in their top 6 should eeven make that loss manageable.
I know gourde has some game with him but for an expensive long contract and a NMC you won't get a high pick for him. I honestly think tampa is gonna have to add a prospect to the deal or take a way lesser pick.
If I'm buf I would do gourde and verhaeghe for 2021 2nd

Volkov's probably ready to jump in next year so this might be feasible.

They will just move Stammer back to 1C and want Gaudreau instead. Still highly unrealistic
They won't get Valimaki if they want Gaudreau, which in this scenario is part of their long term D plan (Hedman-Foote Valimaki-Lundkvist top 4 by 2023). Running Mony+Cirelli+Stamkos all at centre gives them the option of three dangerous pairs as well, with a grinder on the wing to dig pucks out and play defense (kinda like the Hyman-Matthews-Marner line only it would be like Goodrow-Monahan-Kucherov) so I don't really see that as a bad thing. Also allows them to plug and play their F prospects easier if these ones get too expensive (see: PIT and all their wingers)
I feel like that’s an over pay for Point. Don’t see Calgary giving up Maki
If I’m being honest I agree, but Point is the dynamic 1C with a good shot we desperately need. Valimaki was the sticking point that prevented us from acquiring Stone, another guy that woulda made a huge difference to this team so I doubt he gets moved but if he did it would have to be in a deal like this, and he shouldn’t be the thing that nixes a deal like this imo. Hoping for some big balls from Brad but I don’t think we’ll get that 1C unfortunately, this is just a realistic scenario that would be beneficial for both sides.

I loooooove Stone. Guy is amazing. But not giving up Miro to get him is working out pretty well for us. Hopefully not giving up Maki works out nicely for you as well (only when you’re not playing the Stars. Sorry not sorry). He’s always been a favorite prospect of mine. Wanted him badly that draft
