Retool E with ANA

Créé par: Tkachinla
Équipe: 2020-21 Flames de Calgary
Date de création initiale: 25 août 2020

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Using the Pacioretty trade as a comparable for this deal structure.

Pacioretty:
- One year remaining; **signs 4-year extension** (this was key to the deal)
- 29 years old
- Captain
- Regular season: 0.72 pts/game
- Playoffs: 0.50 pts/game

Gaudreau:
- Two years remaining
- 27 years old
- Not going to wear a letter
- Regular season: 0.96 pts/game
- Playoffs: 0.50 pts/game

Gaudreau is younger, more talented than Pacioretty.

Pacioretty trade value:
- Suzuki (#13 overall previous year)
- Tatar (27 years old; 0.51 pts/game)
- 2nd round pick (next draft)

Deal considerations:

- Rakell (27 years old; 0.63 pts/game) is better than Tatar (27 years old, 0.51 pts/game)
- A pick jump of 13 spots in the first round is worth a haul of picks. Costs a lot to move into the Top 10 of any draft, let alone this year's deep draft.

So this deal is a premium to the Pacioretty deal, in my view. But probably too much of a premium for ANA to do the deal.

Love the trade for Calgary and I would definitely go with it. Rakell is a 3 position player and a player that fits the Lindholm and Backlund mold. That would be an awesome Swedish Line! Put Monahan on with Tkachuk and Magiapane or Dube.

That BOS pick is basically a 2nd rounder (likely #26-31), and therefore makes the deal nowhere near fair value for Gaudreau.

Here's CGY LD depth chart:

Giordano, Hanifin, Valimaki, Kylington, Mackey, etc. Guhle is a 23 year old 2nd round pick who has never played more than 30 games in a season. So that's worth a 3rd rounder...still a long ways away from fair value, plus it's a player that doesn't have value for CGY given the LD depth of the Flames in the short- and long-term.

So what would you want in addition to Rakell + Boston 1st?

Probably one of ANA's high-end prospect centers (NHL ready by 2021) or another 1st rounder (2021).

*Suzuki, the 13th overall pick in 2017, is very valuable. He was the key piece of the Pacioretty deal according to Bergevin. I think we will be viewing Suzuki as a player who should've and could've gone Top 6 in that 2017 draft. It's already looking that way.

There is a massive difference between where Anaheim is as a team in terms of compete level vs where Vegas was. No chance they do this

We should just shut this convo down as @Ledge_And_Dairy stated. We will never give up our future for a guy with only 2 years left. As a matter of fact nobody will give up a top 15 picks for a soon to be UFA as this trade is completely off base.

I just don't get it....if you're trading Gaudreau you're looking to "ADD" assets, so I fail to see the point in swapping 1st rd picks.
Yes you move up, but it makes more sense to try and get "another" 1st rd pick rather than just moving selection spots.

ANA isn't in a rebuild though. Look at some of these names and ages a then look at their cap hits:

Gibson (27)

Lindholm (26)
Manson (28)
Fowler (28)

Getzlaf (35)
Henrique (30)
Silfverberg (29)

A rebuilding team does not have these 7 contracts on their books. Full stop. I think ANA would definitely look at any deals that improve their team today. There is a TON of money tied up in these guys who are all still very good players.

The difference between #6 and #19 in this year's draft is about 10 miles. And the cost to move up in the first round of any draft is multiple picks. Probably a 1st and two 2nds. So CGY is most certainly "adding assets" here. #6 overall is going to be a better player who is ready for the NHL sooner.

CGY's last two picks at #6: Tkachuk, Monahan.

CGY's recent picks in the #15-22 range: Valimaki, Poirier, Jankowski,
