Giving out chances

Description
I know all Leafs fans (myself included) are playing around with the idea of the team making major off-season moves. But based on what Shanahan and Dubas have said, that's not happening (why? I don't know and I will never understand. Thanks for asking).

So this time, instead of having fun speculating wildly, I'm making a prediction. Management gives the core one more chance. They sign a RHD from free agency (I have here the rumoured Radko Gudas), they sign a couple of forwards on the cheap (again I've used a rumour in Joe Thorton with Spezza returning for another year of punishment), and they give out their chances.

One more chance for the core 4 to figure it out, one more chance for Freddy to win a round, and, since we're giving out chances, a chance for Bracco to play in the NHL.

Teams and draft picks are kind of just there to show who we get rid of and what we may get back, actual teams and picks don't matter.

This has been less fun. I'm going to go do an ACGM where the Leafs get Parayko and Tkachuk for two 7th round picks or something....

The reason you don’t understand is because you can’t put yourself in their shoes. You probably also underestimate how far the leafs have come since 2015.

If there is a good solid hockey trade out there then yes management will be on it. From what I have seen on cap friendly there are a handful of people who understand both the leafs issues and position heading into this off season.

Maybe? Probably not though. But that's the rumour. To be honest, I would actually prefer if he didn't sign with either and went somewhere like Tampa for a real chance at a cup.

I concede that the kind of hockey trade the Leafs would need to make is going to be difficult to pull off and that trading one of the core 4 is going to be even more difficult, especially for "fair" value.

I was also far too critical in my explanation. I do think a hockey trade needs to be sought out, but not that it should be made at any cost. I was more complaining because doing this is not nearly as fun.

Things get boring when you sign Gudas and give Dermott too much money (I still think he may sign his QO) I don’t mean to be over critical of your agm but your team is god awful.
You can keep the big 4 and still make some fun agm’s. Plenty of great ufa and rfa moves can be made. As well as smaller trades.

My favourite target is Cernak, poluck would be a fun one too but would require getting our first from Carolina.

Not everything has to be nylander for Parayko... that is boring.

Like seriously... someone just rejected Johnsson for a 3rd.... because “we don’t want him” does that even remotely reflect real nhl. I do my best to make fair trades and pick out targets that don’t need a Burke bar to pry free. But I am also very well adapted to tuning out idiots on this site, not that I mind arguing but I certainly don’t let imbeciles influence my thought pattern.

Quite... but this place has turned into twitter over the last year or so. I believe kerfoot was called a “waste of hockey” and we could “keep his cap”...

bet if he wasn't a leaf and played the exact same way but for another team it'd be different

Just too many dummies on this site. One dummy says something and 1000 dummies repeat it.

I stick around for the good conversations and the smart people... from every fan base. And yeah... maybe to argue with the dummies a bit.

Caps pass. I doubt there’s another team in hockey that has less use for Marincin than the Caps, who have way too many LHD already.

Nylander? Lmao... kiddingly. Ot’s not my trade and it’s not a bad one. Johnsson is very good. I actually hope he doesn’t get traded.

Marincin is completely useless, any conscious GM would never give a more than a 6th for that train wreck

It’s not a fair trade though. The Hawks don’t need another middle 6 winger, and they certainly don’t need one that has a cap hit over 3 million.

He’s worth every penny. I mean a 3rd isn’t much to give up for a decent wing that can play either side in your top 9 and be productive and tenacious.
