Really interested from Carolina fans in this one. You’re also like ~2M under the cap floor so maybe a deal with STL to buyout Steen for 2x 2nds? Or a short term buyout for picks?

i don’t think Mantha has that much value. Bean has top 4 potential, suzuki has top 6 potential, 13th overall in this draft has first line potential or Askarov.
Mantha is probably a high end second liner.

I could see Van using Demko to move some salary out but I think it'd have to be one of the guys who have two seasons left like Beagle or Roussel.

Yeah that makes sense with what is coming up next year for VAN. Beagle might play 2C on this team. Detroit can make that dump happen too.

With Bean not being exempt, Carolina will have some tough decisions before the expansion draft, I was thinking this trade is also meant to help alleviate some of that, so they can protect the more traditional 7-3-1 route
And that sounds like semantics. Mantha is a first line winger NOW not later, maybe he slides to second line on this team sure. But he scores 30 goals and is a load to deal with in playoffs

well, you aren’t wrong, i think they would rather use a piece or two from that trade in a different trade for picks or something.

I think it's a good idea for Detroit, guys like Roussel or Beagle can be servicable bottom 6 veterans and can probably be dealt at the TDL of their last year for a late pick, to me it'd be better to take a guy with two years if it gets a young and mostly already developed player instead of a one year dump that probably only gets you another pick for taking them, sure the pick is nice but they're years away from amounting to anything if they even do and you're probably not getting a 1st for taking a one year cap dump that makes $3-4M, really don't see Van being so desperate to dump Baertschi or Sutter that they'd part with Demko but ya gotta think they want some cap space cleared for Pettersson and Hughes big new deals.

Idk, maybe I'm way off but that's how I see it anyway.. Lol

That's a no from Carolina,

Mantha's a good player but you're asking for 3 first rd picks and a roster player, it's just way too much (1 pick being #13OA)

Just for perspective,

Evander Kane, Ryan O'Reilly, Brayden Schenn, Max Patches, and even Mark Stone were acquired for less than this

I agree with you and think Carolina really needs another top 6 winger plus with their surplus of dmen and Bean being a Seattle candidate they're better off trading in some assets on a much needed winger, I think this is good for Carolina even if it's a slight overpay.

This ^

Try Skjei+13th overall. That's absolutely the maximum you'll get for Mantha. Also considering that Canes would have to sign the guy to a big deal just before re-signing Svech and Hamilton means that they can't take any long-term salary without giving some in return.

Hence the Dzingle throw in.
6.5 for Mantha is team friendly IMO once he begins producing on this roster.
They could also pay Seattle to take Jake Gardiner.

That’s fine.
IMO your prospect cupboard is still full after the trade (impressively). Which makes the price palatable.

Make bean skjei

The trade is about timeline for these two teams.
If I replace Bean with Skjei it defeats any purpose.

The timeline for the canes is they need cap space before svechnikov and hamilton break the bank, trading a young Dman who will likely be a top 4 D on an ELC as opposed an actual top 4 D worth 4 ½ mil more makes no sense for them

Dzingel is gone anyway by that point.

Skjei will likely be the one going Seattle anyway.

The Dzingel throw in doesn’t solve the potential cap issues. his cap hit goes away before the extensions are needed.

We could go Nino for cap issues, Bokk, Bean and Rangers 2nd

Skjei, Bokk, and Rangers 2nd.

Seeing the amount of prospect capital we have to get a good player and the talent level at 13OA, I don’t see the Canes trading it.

That’s fair, I figured it was an overpay but I don’t know how you guys rank your prospects. Ideally it would be 2 of the three (13OV, Bean, Suzuki) but then as already mentioned the extensions for Svech and Dougie would/could be problematic. I’m assuming you guys are going 7-3-1 and will protect Slavin, Dougie, and Pesce exposing Bean, Fleury, Skjei, and Gardiner?

i would bet we go 4-4-1

Slavin/Hamilton/Pesce/Bean

Tero/Svech/Aho/Trocheck

Necas is exempt, and the prospect of loosing one of Nino, Fogle, Skei, or Fleury is actually more realistic than loosing Bean

Losing Skei or Fleury and we still have 6 solid d-men, Losing Nino or Fogle, and you hope Bokk or maybe Suski can step in 2 seasons from now
