Ah yes, us Wild fans clamor and beg for a young 1C/2C and what do you give us? A 31 year old 3C who has never reached the 40 pt plateau in his career. Deal.

And we get to give up pick 39 in a deep draft for the privilege! Deal!

If the Caps move Eller, it's to get salary cap space and they won't be getting much beyond that back.

I like the Dadanov signing. Don't know how V would handle 3 rd line duties though...

Caps best bet is to move him next season before the trade deadline to a team that needs Center depth...if they need to move him at all. I really think it was a coaching issue and not a player issue this year. They just didn't seem as motivated as in 2018.

But the best value if they want to trade is definitely when teams are more desperate.

Eller's not a cap dump, he was on pace a 19-27-46 season while playing on a shutdown 3rd line with wingers who barely chipped in offensively and being one of the best PKers on the 6th best PK in the league. Not a lot of guys produce at that level when asked to play that role, and the ones that do get bigger contracts than Eller's. Bonino got a 4x4.1M deal the year before Eller, Helm got 5x3.85M with a career high of 33 points, Compher got the same contract as Eller last year with a career high of 32 points, Pageau just got 6x5M. He's the prototypical 3rd line center, and for 3.5M he's absolutely worth it.

He's not a bad player, but the Wild don't need a bottom 6 center and would be better off just keeping the 39th overall pick. That being said, the Caps won't have a ton of cap space and if they move him, it's likely due to motivation to get cap flexibility which means they're not getting as good of a return on him.

I’m not saying the Wild should be interested, I’m just saying there’s no way the Caps treat him as a cap dump. They’ve got plenty of dead(ish) weight they could drop first with Kempny, Hagelin, Panik, and Jensen who have much smaller roles on the team and would be easier to replace. I’d be very surprised if seller didn’t finish out his contract with the Caps.

Eller would’ve had 46 points this year, has had a 38 point season, is a great shutdown center, and would be the second best center on your roster lol.

You aren’t getting a 1/2 young C for anything cheap. If you want one that’s fine, prepare to give up Dumba or Brodin at the minimum. That’s a fair price for one of the leagues best 3C and a decent 2C on a team like Minnesota where they’re weak down the middle

Never said I was going to get a 1/2 C for anything cheap. And we are preparing to give up one or the other of Dumba/Brodin. But we're a couple years away from competing and you want me to trade two possible future pieces to the puzzle for a 31 year old center. You're out of your mind. We're looking to get younger, not older.
