I don’t think Rielly is the best, I think Carlson is but I still think Rielly is top 3

Well, it was a while ago, but i watched him come up in boston. So there’s that. More recently, I watched the bruins feast on him in two straight playoff series. Incidentally, dougies team managed one win in those two series combined. They dumped the puck in his corner constantly because it was easy pickings. Admittedly, he was better this year than last year. Last year he was a disgrace. Disinterested. Kudos to him for the two points though.

is Reilly the best OFD, like Carlson maybe, but he def relied on the PP (probably second best PP QB to Krug unless I'm forgetting someone) maybe, i can't think of anyone else lol, I'd also like to throw in Fox and Weegar for most underrated, and Trouba for most regressed (tho he was trending downwards in WPG) also, i miss Hammer being the only good pick for best DFD in the league

If what you took out of that was that he didn’t score enough to satisfy me, I’m not sure what you read. He’s good with the puck on his stick. He’s horrible at everything else.

I definitely considered Trouba for most regressed
Fox and Weegar are both great options but I still think Spurgeon is the most overrated since people think hes a mediocre 2nd pairing guy
Rielly was insane last year when healthy, and I think hes only gonna get better if he stays healthy

Lmfao “points are all that matter” so what makes MR better. Gf/60 xGf/60 lmfao oh? So that fact that A guy like Carlson who is top 25 in points the last 2 years means nothing? Advanced stat people are terrible. Imagine hockey is basketball. player A takes 100 shots and 10 go in. Player B takes 60 shots and 40 go in.. Advanced stat people would think player A is better. Same logic applies to hockey. Carlson hands down is the best offensive defenseman it’s not even close

The Dougie Hamilton you are thinking about is the Dougie Hamilton from Boston.

He has taken huge steps since he joined the Canes. Hes definitely a top 3 defenseman, probably the best if he wasnt injured

Notice how they only talk about last year, his career year. They dont want to talk about every other year where he only had 40+ points 1 time

As i stated...again not sure what you folks are reading...the dougie Hamilton I’m referring to is the one that was picked on the last two years in the playoffs. He’s a nice complimentary piece to run a powerplay. Decent in transition but his puck retrieval kinda sucks. Problem with him being a top 3 defensemen is he’s the third best on his team.

Yeah. Carlson was on pace for 89 points this year. Lol people on this site make me laugh. The offensive stats are as easy as looking at points but since that doesn’t support their lame logic they’ll use xga/60. Lol. Hypothetically offense aka point production means nothing when MR hypothetical could have had x amount of points lol

Corsi credits you on shooting or shot attempts no matter quality of shot. It’s a pointless stat considering a shot from danger zone and shot from the blue line count as the same thing. 100 shots would be considered better than the 60 even tho the scoring percentage was lower. I know it’s hard to follow but that’s corsi in a nut shell or my take on it

Corsi isn’t the only advanced stat. also if you want a stat that rewards players for getting into higher danger areas in the slot and around the net that’s what expected goals (xG) are

That's not how (smart) stats people think tho, Raw Corsi (and that's not even how Corsi works) is not a particularly great stat, xG is miles better, so if say player A is a defenseman and takes 100 shots and only 1 goes in that's probably not too far from expected vs a forward taking 50 shots it's probably expected that ~5 of those go in, also if a player (@Alex Holtz lol) takes a ton of low danger shots that just end up as turnovers or faceoffs, their (oi)xG won't be that good bc they're the only ones taking shots and they're not very good ones, plus that's not even how advanced stats are used, you're not supposed to just look at the gut with the highest xG and say he's the best, A. You have to adjust for context (which you can do statistically!) To see, ok, are they on the 2019 hurricanes, ok yes, their raw xG totals are likely inflated (and there are formulas and whatnot that takes into account a ton more than that and give a specific number called RAPM, and Michah's magnus model exists doing similar things) and B. You compare xG to actual goals to say, hey, that guy probably is gonna be out for more goals, or hey, that guy is probably gonna be out for fewer goals next year (and there's only 1 guy who's outscored their xG for more than 5 years straight iirc, Patrick Kane, and even then these past two years his xG has really taken a hit while his GF hasn't, suggestion some regression, and a reliance on TM's, a few more who have consistently underperformed bc the models struggle to evaluate net front guys like Hornqvist and Gallagher, and Jordan Staal has no finishing ability) also there are models that are starting to show finishing talent, which says, hey, maybe that guy can consistently over/under perform his xG, or maybe not, so if that guy who scored more on fewer shots just went on an insane luck streak, you can predict that he'll probably fall back to earth (Anthony Duclair, James Neal sort of) and finally, RAPM xGA is simply the best way to judge how good a player is at preventing goals against. (Even better than RAPM GA bc goalies)
